10 Design is an international design practice with studios in Asia, America and Europe. We are growing our Edinburgh studio to support an expanding portfolio of international projects as well as work across the UK. 10 Design is part of the 10N Collective of architecture practices, headquartered in London and working from 20 studios across five continents. Collaboration across the 10N Collective provides unique opportunities to work with international teams, share expertise and contribute to projects around the world.

Job Description
Architect
The Role

We are looking for talented, creative Architects to contribute to the design and delivery of projects across a diverse range of sectors, scales and locations.

You will take ownership of defined roles, areas or packages, contributing from early design through technical delivery and construction. Your level of responsibility will grow with your experience, confidence and project needs.

For recently qualified Architects, previous experience at Architect level is not required. You will receive support and mentoring from experienced Architects and senior team members, with opportunities to take on greater responsibility and deputise for Senior Architects as you develop.

Key Responsibilities
Project & Design
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across all project stages.
  • Take ownership of defined design packages and deliver coordinated work to programme.
  • Develop creative design proposals, from concept and feasibility through to detailed design.
  • Balance design ambition with technical, construction, cost and programme requirements.
  • Prepare drawings, models, diagrams, reports and presentations for client approval.
  • Coordinate architectural design with structural, MEP and specialist consultants.
Clients & Coordination
  • Contribute to client, consultant and contractor meetings and communications.
  • Build effective working relationships with project stakeholders.
  • Support project brief development, change management and statutory submissions.
  • Review consultant and contractor information and contribute to design coordination.
Project Delivery & Construction
  • Work to project programmes, quality standards and 10 Design procedures.
  • Maintain accurate project information and documentation.
  • Contribute to planning, technical submissions, tender information and construction-stage activities.
  • Review contractor information, attend site visits and support inspections and snagging where appropriate.
  • Identify and escalation risks, issues and potential scope changes.
People & Development
  • Support and mentor junior team members where appropriate.
  • Share knowledge and contribute to a collaborative studio culture.
  • Participate in mentoring, training and continuing professional development.
  • Take ownership of your professional growth and development.
Systems, Risk & Finance
  • Apply 10 Design CAD, BIM, information management and drawing standards.
  • Support project risk management, quality reviews and audit processes.
  • Follow health, safety, CDM and Building Safety requirements.
  • Maintain accurate timesheets and expense records.

Qualifications
Qualifications, skills and experience
Education

UK ARB registration with RIBA Part 3 qualification, or an international equivalent appropriate to the role.

Experience
  • Experience supporting the design and delivery of architectural projects at one or more work stages
  • Working knowledge of project stages, construction methods, materials, standards and specifications
  • Knowledge of UK construction industry legislation, practice and procedures, and/or equivalent knowledge of the Middle East region
  • Developing detailed knowledge of at least one of the following: early design stages, detailed design, or construction information and site delivery
  • Experience on UK and/or international projects is advantageous; Middle East project experience is beneficial
  • For more demanding projects and A3 appointments, previous experience leading substantial areas, packages or teams may be required
Essential software proficiency
  • Advanced proficiency in Rhino, Revit and AutoCAD
  • Intermediate proficiency in Adobe InDesign
  • Working proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and visualisation software such as Enscape
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to review and correct CAD and BIM work produced by others
  • Desirable software proficiency

Communication and professional skills
  • Excellent spoken and written English, with the ability to write and edit clear, concise reports
  • Ability to communicate design ideas through hand drawn diagrams, sketches and illustrations

  • Sound judgement, including recognising the limits of personal knowledge and seeking advice when required
  • Strong organisation, attention to detail and ability to manage competing deadlines
  • Strong design portfolio demonstrating creativity, design thinking, technical awareness and graphical communication
