Job summary

The Davey Tree Expert Company of Canada, Limited in Maidstone, Ontario is seeking an Arborist Apprentice who will gain exposure to all aspects of the arborist role, primarily in the field alongside certified arborists. You will help with site safety, prep, and basic tasks as you learn toward certification.

• Valid provincial driver's license; 5-ton vehicle license and air brake endorsement considered an asset.
• Experience in arboriculture or horticulture preferred.
• Willingness to pursue Arborist certification.
• Ability to lift/carry 50 lbs.
• Team player with safety focus and eagerness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Assist with controlled lowering rope operations.
• Provide tools and equipment to tree workers at height.
• Manage traffic around work sites using warning devices.
• Perform regular equipment inspections and maintenance.
• Cut, chip and load vegetative material.
• Clean up job sites after work.
• Support crew with assigned tasks.
• Follow safety policies and procedures.

Position Overview

As an Arborist Apprentice with Davey Tree, you will begin to gain exposure on all aspects of the Arborist role. You will spend your day in the field supporting Arborists all while ensuring a clean, safe, and organized site. In time Davey Tree would look to support the apprentice in becoming a Certified Arborist.

Job Duties

• Control lowering ropes.
• Supply tools for tree workers aloft.
• Control road and sidewalk traffic as needed by use of warning devices.
• Perform daily, weekly and monthly maintenance inspections on equipment.
• Cut, chip and load brush and wood.
• Complete proper job site cleanup.
• Assist other crew members in performing job duties.
• Abide by Davey and industry safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Valid provincial driver’s license. Licensed to drive a 5-ton vehicle and air brake endorsement considered an asset.
• Previous arboriculture/horticulture experience.
• Willingness to work towards becoming a certified Arborist.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Ability to work safely as part of a team and possess the willingness to learn and progress.

Additional Information

• Full time. Year-round employment.
• $20-$25/hour. Wage will be determined based on education, experience, and relevant qualifications or certifications.
