What You’ll Be Doing

In this varied and rewarding role, you will play a key part in safeguarding and enhancing Surrey’s natural environment. Your work will combine hands-on inspections with strategic planning, giving you the opportunity to see the direct impact of your efforts.

You will:

• Carry out annual walked and driven surveys of individual trees and woodlands, helping to protect and preserve Surrey’s green assets.
• Commission and oversee contractors delivering essential tree works, ensuring high standards and environmental care.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records through our tree inspection database.
• Provide expert guidance on tree root protection zones for construction and development projects.
• Contribute to the creation and delivery of landscape improvement schemes, working closely with our Landscape Supervisor.
• Offer advice and direction to our supply chain to ensure safe and responsible working practices.
• Monitor hazardous third‑party trees, liaising with landowners where action is required.
• Support Ash Dieback management in line with established internal processes.
• Provide input into environmental assessments, influencing the development of high‑quality, sustainable landscapes.

• Proven experience in tree inspection and management, with a sound understanding of arboricultural techniques and industry best practice.
• A current LANTRA Professional Tree Inspection award.
• Strong tree and fungi identification skills.
• Membership of the Arboricultural Association or Institute of Chartered Foresters.
• A full, valid driving licence.
• (Desirable) Experience working in a highways environment.
• Basic knowledge of mapping software (e.g., ArcGIS or similar).
• Competence in Microsoft Office applications.
