Job description

A&P Tyne – Level 3 Apprenticeships starting September 2025

A&P Tyne is part of APCL, a global company operating the largest commercial dry-dock on the East Coast of England, A&P Tyne has been at the heart of the North East's shipbuilding communities for decades.

What will you do?
  • As our Apprentice you'll become an expert in time by learning your specialist skill whether you choose Welding / Fabrication or Business Administration.
  • You'll gain real-world skills as you work alongside experts in their field. Through a blend of on the job and classroom learning you will earn while you learn and will be given all the guidance and support that you need to succeed.
  • Most importantly maintaining your equipment, you'll ensure its all in good working condition and safe, ensuring PPE and safe working practices are instilled and you'll learn about real working life.
  • You'll get the opportunity to work with a variety of customers to gain the perspective of different companies and train within the facility, at college end onboard vessels.
  • You'll be training to apprenticeship standards and regulations and will work with the team making sure you're fully prepared to secure your qualification.
  • You'll have regular check-ins and updates with our managers, and our skilled tradespeople to review your progress, gaining constructive feedback to help with your development and overcome any challenges you face.
  • Dependent on which area, apprenticeships take two to four years to complete.

  • Most importantly, a desire to pick up knowledge and experience and become one of the next generation of employees at A&P Tyne.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a hands-on, fast-paced environment including organisation and problem-solving skills.
  • Qualifications, Minimum of 4 GCSEs including English & Maths (Grade 4-9).
  • Number skills, Analytical skills and Logic.
  • Initiative and tenacity with self-discipline that means you work at your best all day every day.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Physical fitness as the role may involve working outdoors, working at heights and in confined spaces throughout the facility on the banks of the Tyne.

How does the application process work?
  • Complete and submit your questionnaire and then we will be in touch.
  • If successful we'll invite you to an assessment with our Apprenticeship provider.
  • If all goes well there, we'll invite you to a face-to-face facility Tour.
  • If you're successful in that, an interview, and then if all fits into place, you will be offered a September 2025 start.
Due to the nature of what we do for some of the customers that we work with, some roles working for A&P are subject to security control restrictions. These restrictions mean that factors including your nationality, any previous nationalities you have held, and your place of birth may limit those roles you can perform with us.
You must also undergo a Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check before your employment starts, which will include a basic DBS check.
