Overview Of End-point Assessment

The government requires all apprenticeships to include an end-point assessment (EPA), which is a holistic evaluation of the Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours (KSBs) learned throughout the apprenticeship. This ensures apprentices meet employer standards and are fully competent in their occupation. Pearson provides confidence to employers that completing an apprenticeship signifies full job readiness, with consistent assessment standards across all apprentices.

The Lead IQA will lead the team of independent end-point assessors (IEAs) and IQAs, ensuring safe, valid, and accurate assessment decisions. They will also undertake duties as directed by Pearson to adhere to external quality assurance guidelines. Please see the Key Accountabilities and Person Specification sections for further details.

Systems Engineer Background And Experience (essential)
  • Meets the occupational profile requirements for the relevant EPA standard with knowledge and technical skills in the occupational area.
  • Relevant experience of the occupation/sector gained in the last three years or significant experience with evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Hold an internal quality assurance qualification for at least three years.
  • Experience supporting and managing teams of assessors (remote or face-to-face).
  • Experience complying with quality assurance and regulatory requirements.
Key Accountabilities
  • Contribute to the recruitment and training of new IEAs within the team.
  • Act as a mentor for new IEAs.
  • Support IEAs to develop assessment practices through standardisation activities, sharing best practices, and identifying CPD needs.
  • Undertake remote sampling of assessments as per sampling strategy.
  • Accompany IEAs remotely or on-site when required.
  • Provide guidance on using electronic systems.
  • Contribute to the assessment ratings and ongoing analysis for continuous improvement.
  • Support stakeholder engagement through webinars and communication.
  • Maintain accurate records for audits.
  • Engage in professional development.
  • Ensure adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Support enquiries and appeals.
  • Produce quarterly feedback reports to identify trends.
  • Report and escalate risks affecting assessment validity.
Background And Experience (desirable)
  • Current DBS clearance.
  • Knowledge of prevent & safeguarding.
Skills & Knowledge (Essential)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Accuracy in handling high volumes of evidence.
  • Strong time management and organisational skills.
  • Technical knowledge of legislation, frameworks, systems, and tools related to EPA.
  • In-depth understanding of apprenticeship standards, assessment plans, and tools.
  • Ability to assess objectively and without bias.
