Cammell Laird, Birkenhead Apprenticeship and Training Lead

Who are we?
Known across the globe at our Birkenhead facility, on the banks of the River Mersey we expand across 90 acres which includes four dry docks, a large modular construction hall and extensive covered workshops.
We’ve played a strategic role in UK shipbuilding for the past 200 years, repairing, maintaining and building ships and other vessels.
So as a Training Officer at A&P Group, what will you do?
- With a great Apprenticeship & Training programme already in place, this role will work with stakeholders to design and manage the strategy to onboard an additional 500 Apprentices
- You’ll have overall responsibility for ensuring the apprenticeship & training provision is of the highest quality while keeping us compliant
- With operational oversight of the Apprenticeship & Training provision, you’ll be responsible for initiatives to help reach our business objectives. This role involves end to end planning, stakeholder engagement and operational leadership to ensure excellence in training, compliance and the continuous development of apprentice cohorts
- You’ll need to manage resources effectively, including facilities, equipment and staffing
- Working proactively with academic teams, you’ll provide leadership to maintain external quality assurance, and compliance
- Effectively manage the ongoing development and delivery of our outstanding apprenticeships, maintaining excellent success rates and proactively addressing issues where required
- You will collaborate with managers across Operations relating to Apprenticeships ensuring systems and processes are adopted to reduce risk and enhance the apprentice journey, leading to positive outcomes
- With responsibility for positive internal and external partnerships you’ll be supporting apprenticeship management and other related governance meetings
- You’ll co-ordinate all day to day training maintaining our training matrix
And what are we looking for?
- Knowledge of education settings and the Ofsted inspection regime
- A Higher Education teaching qualification or the commitment to complete one.
- Experience managing apprenticeship programmes, training and training matrices
- Ideally will have worked in an engineering or ship building environment
- You’ll need strong interpersonal skills, lots of self-motivation and the ability to motivate others
- Experience presenting information, training delivery, organisation and admin
- Experience in industry, ideally engineering, fabrication, marine or similar where you will have gained an understanding of company quality, safety, health and environmental systems and programs
- Presentation and networking skills
