Job description

Oxford City Council has an exciting opportunity for a Youth Support Work Apprentice to join our
dynamic Youth Ambition team. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to start your career in youth
work, gain valuable workplace experience, and make a real difference in your community.
As an apprentice, you will be supported in developing a wide range of youth work and professional
skills while working towards a Level 3 Apprenticeship qualification. You will gain insight into how a
youth service operates and have the chance to work with a variety of departments and
stakeholders across the organisation and the city.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will be:
• Planning and supporting youth clubs after school and during school holidays
• Doing outreach in schools and the local community
• Helping to plan and run trips
• Evaluating youth activities
• Marketing including social media and events

Where will you learn
This is a two year Level 3 Youth Support Work Diploma, delivered entirely online by eTraining, will
develop the core knowledge, skills, and behaviours essential for supporting young people in a
variety of settings.
Throughout the course, they will learn to engage effectively with young people from diverse
backgrounds, recognising the importance of inclusion and cultural awareness. They will be
equipped to apply safeguarding protocols confidently, identifying and responding to signs of abuse
or neglect with professionalism and care.
A key focus will be on building and maintaining strong professional relationships, enabling
apprentices to provide consistent, supportive guidance. They will also be trained to promote youth
voice and leadership, empowering young people to take an active role in shaping their own lives
and communities.
Apprentices will gain experience in multi-agency and community-based working, understanding
how to collaborate with a range of professionals and organisations. They will develop the ability to
plan and evaluate youth development sessions, ensuring activities are purposeful and impactful.
Additionally, they will learn effective strategies for managing group dynamics and behaviour,
fostering positive and safe environments.
This programme is designed to build confident, capable Youth Support Workers who can make a
lasting difference in the lives of young people
