The Company: Roberts & Prowse based in Bedwas, Caerphilly, Wales are a Steelwork Fabrication and Specialist Welding Contractor who operate throughout the Home Counties, South West & South East of the UK. Due to sustained success and growth are recruiting for an Apprentice Welding & Fabrication Engineer to join our busy team and start an exciting career in Steelwork Fabrication Engineering.

The Role: As an Apprentice Welding & Fabrication Engineer, you will work closely with and report to our Senior Engineering Manager and experienced Welding & Fabrication Engineers. You will gain hands-on experience in welding and metal fabrication at our Bedwas factory while undertaking industry standard training and development.

Key Apprenticeship Responsibilities:

  1. Learning to operate power tools and hand tools and assisting to cut, shape, weld and fabricate metal components
  2. Learning and practising welding techniques including MIG, MAG, TIG & MMA under supervision to join metal parts
  3. Gaining skills to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints
  4. Supporting the assembly of fabricated metal parts using mechanical knowledge under supervision
  5. Understanding how and why we conduct quality checks on finished products to ensure they meet project specifications
  6. Learning and developing proficiency with sheet metal to create various structures
  7. Adhering to all relevant health and safety standards while performing all tasks
  8. Participating in industry training through College to build your knowledge and skills.

The Person: We are seeking motivated individuals with a strong interest in welding and fabrication. Desirable qualities include:

  1. A genuine enthusiasm for learning and working with metal fabrication and welding techniques.
  2. Basic maths skills for measurements and calculations.
  3. A proactive approach to problem-solving and a willingness to develop technical skills.
  4. Strong attention to detail and an ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  5. GCSEs in Maths, English, and Science are preferred.
  6. A full driving license (or working towards obtaining one) is advantageous.

No prior experience is necessary, as full training and development will be provided.
