Job summary

Vortex Fabrications Ltd in a Northamptonshire workshop near Desborough is seeking a full-time Apprentice Welder / Fabricator. You will work alongside experienced fabricators in a busy workshop, learning to produce accurate, well-finished components and assemble them into working systems.

No welding experience required but a positive attitude and willingness to learn are essential. A full driving licence, reliability and keen interest in engineering will help you succeed.

Job description

Vortex Fabrications Ltd is a growing specialist welding and fabrication company based at Eckland Lodge Business Park, near Desborough, Northamptonshire.

We specialise in TIG welding and stainless steel and aluminium fabrication, producing everything from one-off components and repeat batches to complete fabricated assemblies and mechanical build projects. Our work supports customers in motorsport, automation, food and beverage, general industry and aerospace testing.

Projects range from exhaust manifolds, brackets and frames to bespoke tanks, pipework and large aerospace test rigs. Working closely with customers and their designs, we manage fabrication, coordinate processes such as machining and finishing, and carry out mechanical assembly both in our workshop and on customer sites.

We’re a small, friendly team that takes pride in the quality of our work. As the business grows, we’re continuing to invest in our workshop, equipment and people.

Role Description

We’re looking for a full-time Apprentice Welder / Fabricator to join our team. The role is primarily workshop-based, with opportunities to assist with mechanical assembly and installation on customer sites.

You’ll work alongside experienced fabricators, learning how to produce accurate, well-finished components and assemble them into working systems. You’ll gain experience across varied projects and develop an understanding of the complete job, from preparing materials to final inspection.

Your work and training will include:

• Learning TIG welding on stainless steel and aluminium.
• Preparing, cutting, drilling, deburring and finishing materials.
• Assisting with sheet metal, tube and general fabrication work.
• Learning to read engineering drawings, measure accurately and check your work.
• Helping with the manufacture of tanks, pipework, exhaust components, brackets and frames.
• Supporting mechanical assembly in the workshop and on site.
• Keeping tools, equipment and the workshop clean, organised and safe.

You’ll receive hands-on training and support, with increasing responsibility as your skills and confidence develop.

What We’re Looking For

Previous welding experience is not essential. We’re looking for someone who wants to learn the trade, takes pride in what they do and is willing to get involved.

• A full driving licence is essential.

• A well-presented, reliable and punctual approach.
• An interest in engineering and practical, hands-on work.
• Attention to detail and patience to do a job properly.
• The ability to work well with others and follow instructions.

Practical experience through hobbies, school projects, college or previous work is welcome, but enthusiasm and attitude are more important than existing welding skills.
