Job description

Join Animal Trust as an Apprentice Veterinary Nurse in Blackburn and start your career in veterinary care. This entry-level, fixed-term role begins as an Animal Nursing Assistant, progressing to an Apprenticeship Veterinary Nurse upon successful probation.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Work as an Animal Nursing Assistant 35hrs/week to learn essential veterinary nursing skills.
  2. Transition to an Apprentice Veterinary Nurse upon passing probation, working 37.5 hrs/week.
  3. Handle animals safely and perform husbandry of companion animals.
  4. Develop vital clinical skills and manage reception and administrative tasks.
  5. Participate in a rotational rota for comprehensive exposure to veterinary nursing.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 Level 2 qualifications (equivalent to GCSE grades 9 to 4 or A* to C), including English, Maths, and a Science subject.
  • Experience in the veterinary field or completion of the Level 2 Diploma in Veterinary Care Support is required.
  • Passionate about animal care, committed, and hard-working.
Our Offer
  • Starting salary: £12.21PH per hour for the first 6 months.
  • Progress to the Apprentice Pay Scale: Year 1 at £7.55 per hour, Years 2 & 3 at the National Minimum Wage.
  • College course costs covered by Animal Trust.

  • Earn a Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing and eligibility for RCVS registration upon completion.
Work-Life Balance
  • Enjoy a fixed-term position with 37.5 hours per week.
  • 3 days in clinic and 1 day per week at college, full clinic work during college summer holidays.
  • 6 weeks of annual leave and a contributory pension scheme.
  • Potential for a permanent role upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.
