A regional emergency service organization in Rotherham is seeking an Apprentice Vehicle Technician for a 3-year apprenticeship program. The role involves working under qualified technicians to achieve NVQ level three in Vehicle Engineering. Candidates must have a passion for the motor vehicle industry, be at least 16 years old, and have or work towards a full driving licence. This position offers paid employment, training, and various employee benefits including access to a local government pension scheme.
Apprentice Vehicle Technician
Contract: Temporary for the duration of the 3- year Apprenticeship (until qualification achieved) Please note that a permanent fully qualified position cannot be guaranteed on completion of the apprenticeship
Hours: Full Time - 37 Hours per week
Work Pattern: Mon – Thursday 07:30 – 15:30, Friday 07:30 – 15:00, Including College Qualification
Salary: First year: £14,526, Second & third year from £14,526 to £23,491 (depending on age)
Location: South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Workshop, Eastwood Trading Estate, Fitzwilliam Road, Rotherham, S65 1ST. College attendance to be 1 day per week at GTA Group Training Association, Rands Lane Industrial Estate, Armthorpe, Doncaster, DN3 3DY (Hours and day of attendance TBC)
An opportunity has arisen within our Transport section for an Apprentice Vehicle Technician, based at our Workshop in Rotherham.
The successful candidate will work with qualified skilled Motor Vehicle Technicians during their training and will work towards achieving NVQ level three in Vehicle Engineering.
Each level of the training must be completed and exams passed during the three-year apprenticeship.
It would be desirable to hold a full driving licence, however, in order to complete the apprenticeship programme and progress to a fully qualified position a driving licence is an essential requirement and the ability to pass the appropriate South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Driving Assessment.
Whilst undertaking a college course as part of this apprenticeship, you will undertake the below tasks with appropriate supervision:

– English GCSE Grade 4/C, Level 2 Functional Skills, or equivalent
– Mathematics GCSE Grade 4/C, Level 2 Functional Skills, or equivalent
All apprentices are paid at the basic apprentice rate for the first year and the second and third year are paid dependent on their age in line with government guidelines and minimum wage requirements. We offer 28 days annual leave (pro-rata) plus Bank Holidays.
You will be offered the option of enrolling onto the Local Government Pension Scheme with contributions ranging from 5.5% to 12.5%. It is a defined benefit pension scheme that means pensions are based on salary and the length of paying into the scheme. Further information on the scheme, and additional benefits, can be found on the LGPS website.
