**14 month Fixed Term Contract - Apprenticeship **

The Cardiac Cath Lab is a procedural, multidisciplinary area where all team members work closely together to provide the best experience and care possible to elective and emergency patients requiring cardiac procedures.

Our innovative Cardiology department’s Cardiac Cath labs comprise of 5 procedure rooms, a recovery area and an Elective Unit. Procedures completed in the cath lab include coronary diagnostic procedures, interventional angioplasty, Electrophysiology Studies and Pacemaker insertion. In addition we run a 24 hour heart attack service which is provided out of hours on an on call basis. Our service currently entails 2.5 GA lists a week supporting complex pacing and electrophysiology procedures. We also have a fortnightly cardioversion list.

Staff development is a priority and as a department we offer multiple training opportunities to staff. We regularly put staff through the Training Nursing Associate training to aim to become a band 4 within our area.

As an apprentice support worker in the Cath Labs you would;

Support the multidisciplinary team in caring for patients pre and post procedures.

Complete regular observations post procedure escalating any concerns to a registered staff member.

Ensure patients are eating and drinking appropriately pre and post procedure.

Maintain excellent communication with patients during their stay in the cath lab and recovery area.

Assisting the multidisciplinary team in completing procedures including conscious sedation, completing frequent monitoring and reassurance to patient during procedures.

Support multidisciplinary team in maintaining excellent infection control standards within the department.

Assisting in equipment checks and ensuring documentation on checklists is up to date.

Ensuring cath labs and recovery area is stocked safely and efficiently to support productive working.

We welcome applications from individuals wishing to become an Apprentice and gain experience in the NHS. You will develop new skills and knowledge whilst working with an established team gaining valuable work experience and a recognised apprenticeship qualification.

You will be enrolled with a local education provider and will be required to complete your Healthcare Support Worker Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard qualification within the duration of the placement.

Eligibility Criteria

All applicants must be:
• Aged 16+
• Resident in the UK/EEA for the last three consecutive years
• Must not have a qualification in a similar subject at the same level or above
• Must not be in any form of formal government-funded education
• upon the start of their apprenticeship

Qualifications and Skills Required:
• Good general standard of education
• 4 GCSE’s at Grade D/3 or above (or equivalent) subject to the job specification
• Good standard of literacy and numeracy
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Good IT skills
