Job summary

Lincoln College in Lincoln is recruiting an Apprentice Supply Chain Operative to support warehouse and production activities. You will shadow management, learn to use WMS/ERP, and perform stock movements and order processing.

The role runs Monday to Friday, 8:00 am–5:00 pm, with a pathway to the Level 2 apprenticeship and further development opportunities within the team.

Qualifications

  • GCSE English and Maths at minimum grade (A*-C / 9-4).
  • Foundation apprenticeship with on-site study and assessments.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a busy warehouse environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in supervising daily warehouse operations including picking, stock, shipping and receiving.
  • Support process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Learn to operate WMS and ERP software for inventory tracking and order processing.
  • Participate in inventory audits, cycle counts and stock replenishment.
  • Help oversee forklift operations and ensure safety protocols during handling.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement projects for warehouse processes.

Job description

Apprentice Supply Chain Operative - ASC Metals Lincoln Ltd

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Warehouse Operative to join our warehousing and manufacturing team. In this role, you will communicate with a wide range of people, including suppliers, customers, and colleagues across the business, helping to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of our warehouse activities.

Candidates should be comfortable working within an active warehouse and production environment, where there may be varying noise levels and exposure to dust and general industrial conditions. The apprentice role will include shadowing the warehouse/ transport manager and, after training, deputising for some of their activities.

Responsibilities

Assist in supervising daily warehouse operations, including picking, stock, shipping and receiving activities, to ensure smooth workflow and adherence to safety standards

Support the implementation of process improvement initiatives aimed at increasing efficiency and reducing costs

Learn to operate warehouse management systems (WMS) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software inventory tracking and order processing

Participate in inventory audits, cycle counts, and stock replenishment activities to maintain accurate stock levels

Help oversee forklift operations and ensure compliance with safety protocols during material handling

Contribute to continuous improvement projects focused on streamlining warehouse processes and enhancing overall productivity

Duties will include, but will not be limited to:

Preparation of metals according to order specifications

Preparation of metals ready for transportation

Movement of metal stocks using hand and mechanical equipment

Operation of a strong and safe working environment, which may involve some cleaning tasks

Processing of stock control records

Communications with sales team

Loading and unloading of stock/deliveries

What Training Will the Apprentice Take and What Qualification Will the Apprentice Get at the End?

The apprentice will work towards their Apprenticeship Standard in Supply Chain Warehouse Operative Level 2.

The successful candidate will be assigned a dedicated assessor who will provide support and guidance throughout the course.

This is a monthly release programme which means you will attend Lincoln College, one day a month, term time only. This will fall within your contracted working hours.

What is the Expected Career Progression After this Apprenticeship?

Development opportunities will arise for the right candidate to follow further team leading and management training, to deputise for the warehousing manager and support the development of the business improvements.

Mon - Friday 8.00 am-5:00 pm. 40 hours a week

£16,640 to £26,436.80, depending on your age National Minimum Wage Minimum wage rates (opens in new tab) Company-paid training options to gain your forklift license (age-appropriate). Bonus after 6-month probation

Salary: £17,472 to £27,758.64, depending on your age

Salary: £12,480 a year. The pay may be negotiated and may rise after a probation period has been successfully completed.
