Contract Type: Permanent

Working Hours: 37

Worker Type: Hybrid Worker

Salary: Starting Salary is £31,586 (Level one) rising to £34,314 ‘pro rata for part-time’

About The Role

To support children, young people and families by working as part of a team that provides care and support services. The role involves learning on the job while studying for a Social Work qualification at Nottingham Trent University. The apprentice will help with assessments, planning and support work, aiming to improve the lives and wellbeing of children and families in the community.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

Qualifications

  • Must meet the criteria for a degree-level apprenticeship (e.g., not already holding a social work degree).
  • Must be eligible to study at Nottingham Trent University as part of the apprenticeship scheme. A degree in Social Work, Youth Work, Community Development, or a related field.

Essential Experience

  • Working with Vulnerable Groups: Experience of working with vulnerable children, young people, and adults from a variety of backgrounds in a way that focuses on achieving positive outcomes.
  • Supporting Change: Experience of helping children, young people, and families to manage change in their lives.
  • Partnership Working: Experience of working in partnership with children, families, and communities to shape and improve services.
  • Early Intervention: Experience of using preventative and early intervention models when working with children and families to avoid the need for more intensive or specialist services.
  • Conflict and Sensitive Issues: Experience of handling conflict and managing sensitive situations to achieve positive outcomes.

Essential Knowledge

  • Child Development: A practical understanding of child development and the needs of children, young people, and families.
  • Safeguarding and Legislation: Sound knowledge of safeguarding issues and experience applying relevant legislation, policies, and procedures in practice.
  • Multi-Agency Working: Understanding of multi-agency and partnership working, and awareness of the range of services available to support families.
  • Theories and Models: Knowledge of different theories, models, and approaches used in working with children and families, and experience applying these in real-world settings.
  • Organisational Awareness: Understanding of the City Council’s strategic aims and how they relate to service delivery.

Essential Skills And Competence

  • Effective Communication: Able to communicate clearly and sensitively with children, families, and professionals.
  • Relationship Building: Builds trust and positive working relationships with service users and colleagues.
  • Assessment and Planning: Can assess needs and contribute to action plans that support children and families.
  • Teamwork and Independence: Works well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Written and IT Skills: Able to produce clear written records and use IT systems effectively.
  • A DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is required for this post.
