APPRENTICE SIGNAL TECHNICIAN

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN APPRENTICE SIGNAL TECHNICIAN

As an Apprentice Signal Technician, your day involves assisting with minor repairs of electrical and electronic equipment. You perform basic testing and evaluation of traffic signal control equipment to ensure system compatibility. Your role is essential to the city, maintaining routine traffic signal systems to operate properly. You will be on your toes, ready to handle unexpected challenges, including maintaining pavement markings on city streets and parking facilities, managing lane channelization, traffic hazards, school-pedestrian crosswalks, railroad crossings, and delineations. When not in the field, you will install and remove traffic signs as needed. You enjoy being helpful, providing assistance to other divisions, and take genuine satisfaction in your work!

Qualifications For An Apprentice Signal Technician

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Preferred: Certifications from community college, vocational, technical, or correspondence schools
  • Knowledge of basic electronics, electrical theory, occupational hazards, and safety precautions
  • Preferred: One (1) year of related experience
  • Must hold a valid Class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety
  • Achieve IMSA Level I Certification
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
