Job description

The Apprentice Senior Healthcare Support Worker is a core team member delivering direct care to patients and supporting registered practitioners in providing high-quality, compassionate healthcare according to assessed needs and care plans.

As a Healthcare Support Worker, you will be involved in direct patient care while maintaining patients' privacy and dignity. You will work alongside a Registered Nurse to provide essential nursing care and assist patients with daily living tasks such as:

  • Helping patients feel comfortable and move around
  • Monitoring patients and performing basic health checks
  • Washing, dressing patients, and assisting with toileting
  • Serving meals and helping feed patients
  • Documenting care provided to a high standard

Once promoted to a Senior HCW (Band 3) role, you will perform a range of clinical duties with minimal or no supervision. These include, but are not limited to, blood pressure monitoring, oxygen saturation, body temperature, pulse and respiration rates, glucose monitoring, and collecting/testing samples such as urine, fecal, sputum, and wound swabs. The specific duties will vary depending on your area of work.

This apprenticeship will help you develop knowledge and skills tailored to your needs and area of work. You will achieve a Level 3 Healthcare qualification and be supported to obtain your Care Certificate if not already completed.

Key responsibilities include obtaining consent, following care plans, making informed decisions within your scope, and practicing safe standards of care following Trust policies. As a Band 3, you will carry out clinical duties with minimal supervision, participate in patient assessments, and escalate concerns appropriately. Maintaining a safe work environment and promoting patient independence and health education are also essential.

This role is suitable for candidates with Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths and English who wish to gain a Level 3 Qualification. Experience in care is advantageous but not required. Applicants must have resided in the UK for three years prior to starting and have a valid visa. Sponsorship is not provided.
