Job description

At Severn Trent, we believe everyone deserves more. More care for the environment, more sustainable initiatives, and more support for the communities we serve. That's why we're on a mission to deliver bigger and better things, and we need passionate apprentices like you to help us achieve our goals.

Our people and culture are the heart of our success. We're proud to be in the top 5% of utility companies worldwide for employee engagement. With nearly 10,000 dedicated colleagues, we're looking for more brilliant people eager to turn challenges into opportunities.

If you're excited to learn, and ready to make a real impact, we want you on our team!

LET’S TELL YOU MORE

Apprenticeship Programmes are a great way to earn and learn! Our Process Scientist Apprentice Programme offers the perfect blend of practical and technical learning which is both on-site and office based. Entering an apprenticeship scheme with us involves working towards the role of a fully-fledged professional, earning a salary, whilst also being able to maintain a sense of academic achievement. At Severn Trent we provide the perfect mix between hands-on experience and a formal qualification, enabling our apprentices to make a real lasting difference to our customers and communities, not just for now, but far into the future.

As an Apprentice Process Scientist, you’ll be exposed to a wide range of opportunities across Severn Trent and Hafren Dyfrdwy. You will work alongside other Process Scientists to review the performance of our Water Treatment Works, participate in water quality improvement activities and support the delivery of operational efficiencies. You’ll have the opportunity to define the future of our Water Treatment Works by working alongside Process Design Engineers to explore and build a breadth of knowledge across teams.

You'll be supporting colleagues to help create a fair and equitable working environment where everyone can succeed by:

  1. Collaborative learning within your direct team and across our relevant stakeholders in Water Treatment
  2. Creating a culture of trust through your technical development so that you can provide technical advice to operational teams
HOW WILL THE PROGRAMME WORK

For this Apprenticeship Programme (Level 6) we require all candidates to have:

  1. Three A Levels at CCC or above
  2. A minimum of five GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above including Mathematics, English and a science, technology or engineering related subject
ROLE EXPECTATIONS POST APPRENTICESHIP

By the end of this programme, you will take up a role of a Process Scientist.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN
  1. Excellent communication and influencing skills across a range of stakeholders and peers
  2. Comprehensive IT skills across a range of platforms (e.g. ESCADA, SAP, QUIS) and how these are used to interact with and understand our treatment processes
  3. The principles of Water Treatment including chemical and engineering processes
  4. How to support the identification and resolution of water quality risks through audits, investigations and root cause analysis
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We want our employees to care and to have a genuine passion for what we do as a business. We need people who want to make a difference in providing a vital service to our customers, now and for the long-term.

We’d love you to be someone with…

  1. A ‘can do’ attitude – willing to get stuck in, take accountability for decisions and actions and who takes pride in their work
  2. A love of variety in a role and ability to adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced working environment
  3. Ability to quickly prioritise tasks and the initiative to dive head-first into problem solving.
  4. Excellent communication and collaboration skills and enjoy working with multiple teams
  5. Ability to analyse and interpret information and effectively communicate this to different team members and audiences
  6. Curiosity to learn quickly in a reactive and dynamic working environment
HOW WE’LL REWARD AND CARE FOR YOU IN RETURN

It’s not just a job you’ll get here, you’ll get a career too. We have a range of benefits that reward and recognise great work and award-winning training to ensure you reach your potential. And we’ll also help you play your part in looking after the environment and the community in which we live.

With that in mind, here are just some of our favourite perks that you’ll get being part of the Seven Trent family:

  1. 25 days holiday + bank holidays (and the ability to buy/ sell up to 5 days per year)
  2. Annual bonus scheme (of up to £1,500, which is subject to eligibility)
  3. Leading pension scheme – we will double your contribution (up to 15% when you contribute 7.5%)
  4. Sharesave – the chance to buy Severn Trent Plc shares at a discounted rate
  5. Dedicated training and development with our Academy
  6. Retail offers
  7. Family friendly policies
  8. Two paid volunteering days per year

As if that isn’t enough, you’ll receive an annual salary increase whilst you’re on programme and you’ll also get an increase when you move into your first job.
