Job summary

A leading apprenticeship provider in Exeter is seeking candidates for a Painter and Decorator role. You'll conform to workplace safety while preparing and painting various surfaces and gaining hands-on training over 24 months. Ideal candidates should have good grades in Maths and English and possess practical skills with hand tools. A driving license is beneficial for travel between sites.

Qualifications

• Grades at least at E+ in Maths and English or equivalent are needed.
• Having a driving licence and transport is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Conform to health, safety, and welfare in the workplace.
• Prepare surfaces by sanding, priming, and applying undercoats.
• Paint various surfaces and apply wallpaper.

Education

Maths and English grades at grade 2 or above

Job description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conforming to general health, safety, and welfare in the workplace
• Cut in and paint to a very high standard
• Preparing surfaces by sanding down, priming, mist coat, and undercoat
• Corking
• Painting walls, ceilings, skirting boards
• Applying layers of paint to different surfaces, e.g., plasterboard, timber, metal, and hanging wallpaper
• Glossing woodwork, skirting boards, bannisters, doors

Training

To attend Exeter College's Falcon House one day a week, during term time only.

Qualifications required

• Maths and English grades at grade 2 (grade E+) or above, or equivalent
• Having a driving licence and transport will be beneficial for getting from site to site.

Skills required

• Excellent timekeeping skills with the ability to work in adverse weather conditions
• Desire to attend a training provider and learn additional theory and practical skills within this trade
• Practical skills including working with hand tools
• Able to work at height
• Flexible approach to working on different sites
• Keen eye for detail
