What is your apprenticeship programme?

At Sheffield Forgemasters, our apprentices form an important part of our DNA. We pride ourselves on offering our apprentices not only the best training but also the right support and guidance to ensure they flourish into competent and confident individuals.

During Your Apprenticeship You Can Also Expect:
  • An award-winning 4-year apprenticeship programme
  • Partnerships with trusted learning providers that are dedicated to meet the needs of your apprenticeship standard
  • Trained and experienced mentor(s), offering full support throughout
What would we expect from you?

We are only looking for highly talented, committed individuals who have a genuine thirst for learning. You'll need to be disciplined when balancing the demands of your academic learning programme as well as the practical elements you'll gain on the job. From day one, we'll expect you to get stuck into life at Sheffield Forgemasters, so you must enjoy working with others, but you'll also be trusted to work independently. Being able to communicate effectively is really important for all our apprentices. Maintaining the highest levels of quality is key for our customers, so is a priority for us too; this is why your training programme will be diligently followed through. In return, we expect you to bring your full focus and attention to your work.

What do you do at Sheffield Forgemasters?

We manufacture some of the world's largest steel castings and forgings, ranging from 1 to 350 tonnes. You don't need to be a metallurgist expert to know that is really big and really heavy! When it comes to steel production, anything that's heavy and technically complex is where we add real value to our customers. We produce a wide range of products for mills and presses, nuclear, defence, power generation, offshore oil and gas, and materials processing industries. It is this diversity of products that allows us to offer a number of different opportunities across our business. Check out our website for more information and images of the exciting work we do here.

We have a long and established history within Sheffield spanning over 170 years. In 2021, we were acquired by the Ministry of Defence (MOD). This has given our business a new focus, marking an exciting and monumental time for our future. We have also secured over £400m of new investment over the next 10 years to support our defence-critical assets, including plans for a new heavy forge line and building, a flood alleviation scheme, and major machine tool replacements. There really is no better time to join us!

What can we offer you in return?

In addition to all of the above, here are some of the other benefits you'll get when you join us:

  • Competitive salary, with annual incremental reviews
  • 33 days annual leave
  • Central location with free onsite parking
  • Long term career opportunities on completion
  • Matched Pension scheme and Life Assurance Scheme
  • On site Occupational Health provision providing Health Screening and advice on well-being focus topics
  • Employee Assistance Programme
