Job description

Apprentice Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer
Salary: £17,524.65 + Package (Increasing yearly within a set framework)
The first year of the apprenticeship program will involve living away Sunday to Thursday near our college provider in Birmingham. CHEP will fully fund accommodation and travel costs. Due to the college start time on Monday you will need to travel to the student accommodation on Sunday.

So, what's the role about?

You will be trained within a multi-disciplined maintenance team during your four-year apprenticeship. During your training, you will experience all aspects of electrical and mechanical maintenance, including automation. You will also get to move across other service centres in the UK during the programme to ensure a well-balanced training experience.

Your development will be supported with a mentor and manager and will include:

  1. Completing a full apprenticeship programme.
  2. Follow all Health & Safety procedures.
  3. Maintain electrical, mechanical and automation equipment.
  4. Seek ways to improve all processes and procedures relating to maintenance.
  5. Develop excellent technical communication skills.
  6. Conversant in engineering maintenance theories and principles.
  7. Perform first-line routine mechanical and electrical maintenance, including removing and replacing components, cleaning, lubrication, inspection, and fault finding.

What are the key skills/attributes for this role?

  • Minimum of 18 years of age
  • The entry requirements for the apprenticeship course are a minimum of 5 GCSEs at 9-4 / A-C (5 or above preferred), which must include Maths, English language, and ideally Science, or equivalent related qualification.
  • You'll need a strong work ethic and a keen interest in the world of engineering.
  • Self-motivated & the drive to learn.
  • Be comfortable living away for the first year of your apprenticeship.

  • Video Interview Screening: Successful applicants will be contacted and invited to an online video interview between Monday, April 14th, 2025, and Friday, May 9th, 2025.
  • Assessment Centre: If successful in the screening stage, you will be invited to our assessment Centre on Wednesday, 28th May 2025, at Make UK, Birmingham, B6 7EU.
  • On-Site Interview: On-site interviews, which will include a site tour, will take place between Friday, 30th May 2025 and Friday, 6th June 2025.
  • Offer of Employment: Successful candidates will receive an offer of employment before Friday, June 13th, 2025, with a planned start date in mid-September 2025.
