What does an Apprenticeship at Costain offer me?

There are a wide range of apprenticeships available, in various levels of qualification and duration. At Costain, we offer apprenticeships working on projects across the UK in sectors including nuclear, highways, rail, water, airports, tunnels, and with numerous partners and joint ventures.

The level and training provider for your apprenticeship will depend on your skills at interview. Our Early Careers team will register you with a suitable training provider to support your qualification. As an apprentice, you will work both on-site and with your training provider, balancing practical experience with off-the-job learning.

You will be supported throughout your apprenticeship by your project line manager, the Early Careers Team, and your training provider, which may be a college, university, or independent training provider. You will have dedicated time for studies and on-site training aligned with project work to ensure you meet technical and competency standards.

Role Purpose and Responsibilities

You will be responsible for key work elements on a project, focusing on mechanical engineering and technical delivery, while managing aspects of time, cost, and quality. Tasks include:

  • Carrying out planned maintenance with mechanics
  • Undertaking duties assigned by supervisors or superintendents
  • Assisting in managing site operations to ensure safety, quality, cost-effectiveness, and customer satisfaction, including planning and sequencing operations
  • Writing method statements and risk assessments
Additional Requirements

Candidates must achieve appropriate security and medical clearances, which will be initiated upon receiving a conditional offer. Please note that if invited to interview, you will need to present your passport and/or right to work documentation. As some project sites are remote, the ability to travel to sites is required.
