Job summary

The University of Oxford invites applications for an Apprentice Laboratory and Facilities Assistant in the RDM Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. This role supports Lab/Operations Managers and Facilities Teams to keep research spaces safe and well‑run.

You will undertake a Level 3 Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship with CSR Scientific Training, based mainly at John Radcliffe with some duties at Old Road Campus.

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join the University of Oxford as an Apprentice Laboratory and Facilities Assistant in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine (CVMed), within the Radcliffe Department of Medicine (RDM). As Apprentice Laboratory and Facilities Assistant, you will work across CVMed to assist Laboratory/Operations Managers and Facilities Teams in the safe and smooth running of the department's scientific and clinical research areas.

Your responsibilities

• Follow relevant Health and Safety procedures to maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment within laboratories.
• Conduct regular visual inspections and report identified faults and hazards.
• Assist with safety inspections, fire alarm tests, and evacuation drills.

About the apprenticeship

As part of this role, you will undertake a Level 3 Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship with CSR Scientific Training.

This apprenticeship will be based on the John Radcliffe Hospital site, with duties occasionally being undertaken at the Centre for Human Genetics on the Old Road Campus. The majority of your apprenticeship learning will be completed online once a week. In total, it will take 2 years to complete all elements of the apprenticeship, with support from the Department, University, and College throughout.

About you

You will be passionate about starting your career supporting scientific and medical research and excited about the opportunity of becoming an apprentice at the University of Oxford. You may be starting your career or you may be looking for a career change. To complete the level 3 apprenticeship you will need to evidence passes at 9-4 or A*-C in GCSE Maths, English and a science subject (or equivalent qualifications). Regardless of your prior qualifications, CSR Scientific Training will require you to complete a short initial assessment during the application process. There are also government residency requirements for Apprenticeship funding which the Training Provider will be able to advise on.
