This is an exciting opportunity for someone at the beginning of their career who has a genuine interest in journalism, enjoys finding out what makes people and businesses tick, and wants to develop their writing skills in a professional publishing environment.

You will not need previous journalism experience. Instead, we are looking for someone with natural curiosity, strong communication skills and a real desire to learn.

The Opportunity

You will work alongside an established editorial team, gaining practical experience across a portfolio of respected business-to-business publications.

From your first day, you will be encouraged to contribute ideas, research stories and develop your own writing style. Over time, you will become involved in a wide variety of editorial activity, including:

  • Finding and researching news stories
  • Writing articles and features for digital and print audiences
  • Speaking with business leaders and industry professionals
  • Developing contacts and building relationships within different sectors
  • Identifying interesting stories and turning ideas into engaging content
  • Working to editorial deadlines and maintaining high standards of accuracy
  • Contributing to online content and magazine production
  • Attending relevant industry events and exhibitions

This is a hands-on role where you will have the opportunity to see your work published and build a portfolio of professional journalism.

Alongside your employment, you will undertake a journalism apprenticeship, combining practical experience with structured professional training.

The programme leads to a Level 5 Diploma in Journalism through the National Council for the Training of Journalists, providing an excellent foundation for a long-term career in journalism.

What We Are Looking For

You may be a recent school or college leaver, a graduate, or simply someone who has always wanted to work in journalism and is now looking for the right opportunity.

We are particularly interested in people who:
  • Have excellent written and spoken English
  • Enjoy writing and have a natural eye for detail
  • Are inquisitive and interested in what is happening around them
  • Are confident approaching and speaking with new people
  • Can ask intelligent questions and listen carefully to the answers
  • Are organised and comfortable working to deadlines
  • Take feedback positively and are keen to improve
  • Have the drive and determination to build a career in journalism
  • Enjoy working as part of a team but can also take responsibility for their own work

Most importantly, you do not need to arrive as a finished journalist. Our client is looking for potential, enthusiasm and the right attitude, with the training and support provided to help you develop.

What You Can Expect

This is an opportunity to join a supportive editorial environment where you can learn directly from experienced journalists while gaining a recognised professional qualification.

You will have the chance to develop your writing, interviewing and research skills, build valuable industry contacts and establish a genuine career within business journalism.

If you are looking for your first opportunity in journalism and want to combine real-world experience with professional training, this could be an excellent next step.
