You will work alongside one of our highly skilled mentors, who work in Repairs, Construction and void properties and deliver a service to over 26,000 homes within the city as well as public buildings such as schools.
You will get hands on experience in Carpentry skills working with building materials (most often wood) to create and install building components. This typically involves shaping and cutting materials, installing finished materials like partitions, doors, staircases, window frames, moldings, timber floor coverings and erecting structural components such as floor joists and roofs.
You will be responsible for producing high quality work which meets standards, specifications and design plans. You are expected to comply with all safety aspects involved with working on a construction site, ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of yourself and others at all times.
You will interact with other construction trades such as bricklayers, plasterers and plumbers and will be working in a team and under supervision.
Essential Requirements

At Newcastle City Council our apprentices are paid a salary based on a percentage of the entry level role of the chosen trade you will be working towards in your apprenticeship, or the statutory national minimum/living wage rate according to age, whichever is greater. This will increase each year as you develop your knowledge and skills.
On successful appointment to Newcastle City Council, you will automatically be enrolled into the Local Government Pension scheme (LGPS). A percentage of your monthly pay depending on your salary is deducted from your monthly pay.
Your annual leave entitlement will be 25 days per year.
If you are a new employee to Newcastle City Council your appointment is subject to a successful probationary period of 6 months.
Your working week will consist of 37 hours Mon – Friday.
