Job summary

EQUANS is offering an apprenticeship opportunity for an Apprentice Highway Operative in Chester. You will train under supervision to achieve the Highways Maintenance Skilled Operative Level 2, supporting installation, maintenance and fault-finding on street lighting and electrical systems.

The role provides hands-on training, exposure to site operations, and progression through on-the-job assessments within required timescales.

Qualifications

• GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths, English, and Science – Grade 4/C or above.
• Willingness to work toward the NVQ Level 2 in Highway Electrical Systems apprenticeship standard.
• Willingness to obtain an ECS Apprentice Card.
• Full UK driving licence or working toward obtaining one

Responsibilities

• Assist installation and maintenance crews on highway electrical systems.
• Assist electricians with installation, repair and maintenance of street lighting assets.
• Support fault-finding activities and basic electrical checks under supervision.
• Follow safety policies, risk assessments and method statements on highways and electrical systems.
• Record work completed and materials used in handheld devices or job sheets.

Education

GCSEs in Maths, English and Science (Grade 4/C or above)

NVQ Level 2 in Highway Electrical Systems apprenticeship standard

ECS Apprentice Card

Full UK driving licence
