You will be working towards gaining an SVQ Level 3 Apprenticeship in Heavy Goods Maintenance.

You must be committed, enthusiastic, and hardworking, as well as have the ability to work as part of a team. Entry requirements for the training course with GTG are ideally a minimum of Nat 4 or 5 in Maths and English, plus a science or technical subject. If you don’t hold these qualifications, consideration will still be given.

During the apprenticeship, there will be a number of units completed, such as:

  • Contributing to housekeeping
  • Reducing risks to health & safety
  • Maintaining working relationships
  • Using tools and equipment in motor vehicle engineering
  • Facilitating individuals’ learning and development
  • Inspecting commercial vehicles
  • Diagnosing and rectifying commercial vehicle engine and component faults
  • Diagnosing and rectifying motor vehicle electrical unit and component faults

Throughout the training, you will be supported internally by our qualified HGV Mechanics, applying your new skills and knowledge to our HGV units, trailers, and plant & machinery. There will also be regular assessments with a GTG assessor through practical observations in the workplace, online tests, and submission of job card evidence.

Following the formal apprenticeship training, full-time employment will continue as a qualified HGV Mechanic.
