Job summary

Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust offers a Level 4 Healthcare Science Apprenticeship in the GI physiology department, running for about 26 months. The post holder will assist clinical scientists and practitioners in preparing patients, rooms and equipment for GI investigations and will support during procedures.

The role includes a 37.5-hour week with one study day per week toward the Level 4 Diploma in Healthcare Science, under supervision and in line with departmental policies.

Qualifications

• GCSE English and Maths at grade 4/C or above, or equivalent.
• Interest in science or patient care.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients, environments and equipment for GI physiology investigations.
• Support clinicians during diagnostic procedures to keep patients comfortable, dignified and safe.
• Assist with cleaning, preparation, maintenance and quality control of equipment.
• Support accurate recording and management of clinical data under information governance rules.
• Communicate with patients, carers and colleagues across the patient pathway.
• Contribute to infection prevention, health and safety and service improvement.
• Undertake delegated technical and administrative tasks within the scope of the job description.
• Complete academic work, workplace assessments and competency-based training for the Level 4 Healthcare Science Apprenticeship.
• Work under direct and indirect supervision, following department policies and procedures.

Job description

This Level 4 apprenticeship sits in the gastrointestinal physiology department at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, running for about 26 months. The post holder helps clinical scientists and specialist practitioners prepare patients, clinical rooms and equipment for GI diagnostic tests and treatments, and assists during procedures. Alongside a 37.5-hour week, one day a week is set aside for study towards the Level 4 Diploma in Healthcare Science. Working under supervision, it suits someone with GCSE English and maths and an interest in science or patient care.

What the job involves

• Prepare patients, clinical environments and specialist equipment for GI Physiology investigations
• Support Clinical Scientists and Specialist Practitioners during diagnostic procedures, keeping patients comfortable, dignified and safe
• Assist with cleaning, preparation, maintenance and quality control of specialist diagnostic equipment
