The Role

The successful applicants will join the Foundry Frontend team and support the casting manufacturing process at Sheffield Forgemasters. Moulders or coremakers use a pattern and moulding material to produce the hollow moulds into which molten metal is poured to make castings. They decide how the mould is to be made, depending on the size and shape of the pattern. Very large moulds are made in specially designed sand pits in the foundry floor.

What would we expect from you?

We are only looking for highly talented, committed individuals who have a genuine thirst for learning. You’ll need to be disciplined when balancing the demands of your academic learning programme as well as the practical elements you’ll gain on the job. From day one we’ll expect you to get stuck in to life at Sheffield Forgemasters, so you must enjoy working with others but you’ll also be trusted to work independently. Being able to communicate effectively is really important for all our apprentices. Maintaining the highest levels of quality is key for our customers, so is a priority for us too, this is why your training programme will be diligently followed through. In return we expect you to bring your full focus and attention to your work.

What do you do at Sheffield Forgemasters?

We manufacture some of the world’s largest steel castings and forgings, ranging from 1 to 350 tonnes. You don’t need to be a metallurgist expert to know that is really big and really heavy! When it comes to steel production anything that’s heavy and technically complex is where we add real value to our customers. We produce a wide range of products for mills and presses, nuclear, defence, power generation, offshore oil and gas and materials processing industries. It is this diversity of products that allows us to offer a number of different opportunities across our business.
