Apprentice Field Service Engineer

This position reports to

Service Operations Manager

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will support the business, collaborate with different teams, and contribute to the company's strategic objectives. We are seeking an energetic and enthusiastic individual to join our UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) division. The team comprises highly qualified engineers, and we are committed to training the next generation of field service engineers. Training will be provided locally in the UK and at our UPS factory in Quartino, Switzerland. The work model for this role is: Onsite. This position contributes to the Electrification, Smart Power UK division. You will receive comprehensive training in electrical/electronic engineering and gain an understanding of ABB's business approach. Upon completing the apprenticeship, you will be proficient in: commissioning and start-up, maintenance activities, diagnostics and repair, battery technologies, and understanding 3-phase and 1-phase electrical systems. Additionally, you will participate in formal training to develop personal and leadership skills, contribute to social events, and build a broad network within ABB.

Qualifications for the role
  • A genuine interest in electrical/electronic engineering and a career in the engineering sector.
  • GCSE grade 4 or above in 6 subjects, including Maths and English; A Levels or equivalent BTEC National Diploma preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a logical and problem-solving mindset.
  • Full Clean Driving License, as travel to customer and ABB sites will be required.
