A UK Training Provider is looking for an Apprentice Fabricator in Exeter. This role supports the Production Team Leader and involves learning various sheet metal processes. Candidates must have Maths and English at Level 4 or above and a willingness to learn. Training combines on-the-job experience and college day release. Opportunities exist for progression to Level 3 after completing Level 2 Engineering Operative. Overtime and bonus possibilities are available.
Job Purpose
The Apprentice Fabricator supports the Production Team Leader and sheet metal fabrication team by performing daily duties. They contribute to team output and are trained on various workshop equipment and processes, including CNC Punching, Linishing, CNC Folding, Inserting, Drilling, Countersinking, MIG & TIG Welding, Stud & Spot Welding, Degreasing, Powder Coat Painting, Stainless Steel Finishing, and Mechanical Assembly.
Through day release, they will complete college studies and projects, aiming for a passing level at course end.
Job Role and Responsibilities
Health & Safety
- Take responsibility for personal safety and contribute to team safety by following rules and best practices.
- Use processes only when trained and authorized.
Manufacturing
- Operate processes such as CNC Punching, Linishing, CNC Folding, Insertion, Drilling, Welding, Degreasing, Powder Coating, Stainless Steel Finishing, and Mechanical Assembly, achieving consistent quality and efficiency.
- Support workshop organization, cleaning, waste disposal, and stock management.
- Assist with routine maintenance tasks.
Other Responsibilities
- Develop knowledge of sheet metal fabrication through trade magazines, web browsing, and podcasts.
- Attain NVQ-based apprentice qualification.
- Identify waste reduction opportunities and suggest efficiency improvements.
Remuneration & Hours
- Pay Band 1.
- Overtime and discretionary bonuses may apply.
- Work hours from Monday to Thursday, with potential college attendance on Fridays.
Training
- Combination of on-the-job learning and college day release.
Qualifications Required
- Maths & English Level 4 or above.
Skills Required
- Essential: Willingness to learn and retain knowledge.
- Desirable: Computer literacy, CAD/CAM skills, CNC operation experience.
Prospects
- Opportunities to progress to Level 3 after completing Level 2 Engineering Operative.
- Qualification: ST0537 Engineering Operative, duration 15 months.
