Job summary

FJD Consulting in Bristol is offering an Apprentice Engineering Technician role to support the delivery of design and assessment projects while gaining hands-on experience in a collaborative team.

As you progress you'll move into an Engineering role, pursuing a Civil Engineer (level 6) apprenticeship with the University of the West of England, Bristol. Working week is Monday to Friday, 40 hours, with day release during term time.

Qualifications

  • Essential: BTEC - STEM with focus on Eng and Maths - Merit.
  • Progression into an Engineering role during the apprenticeship.
  • Willingness to learn and develop technical skills in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in design and assessment tasks with accuracy and initiative.
  • Produce 2D/3D/4D models and drawings using CAD/BIM software.
  • Support data collection, surveys, and technical submissions.
  • Adhere to safety standards and project codes of practice.

Introduction

As an Apprentice Engineering Technician, you will support the delivery of high quality design and assessment projects, gaining valuable technical experience while contributing to a collaborative and dynamic team.

As you progress you'll move into an Engineering role.

FJD Consulting are an award winning engineering design consultancy working largely in the rail sector. We have offices in Birmingham and Bristol. We specialise in civil and structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, electrical engineering, Building Information Management (BIM), low carbon engineering, and engineering innovations.

What You'll Do
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Energy:
  • Assist staff across a variety of tasks, including estimating, surveys, inspections, assessments, design commissions, and technical submissions, bringing enthusiasm and a proactive approach
  • Support additional delegated activities and demonstrate adaptability in responding to project needs
Professional:
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act, CDM Regulations, and COSHH requirements through the production of high-quality design deliverables
  • Adhere to design codes of practice, Network Rail standards, local working instructions, and CAD / BIM standards to maintain technical excellence
Innovation:
  • Support the production of 2D, 3D, and 4D models, drawings, visualisations, and animations using various CAD / BIM software packages, contributing to efficient project delivery
  • Utilise various data sources, CAD / BIM, and photogrammetry software to create accurate survey models
  • Assist with clash detection activities, gauging, and clearance checks, ensuring seamless project execution
Care:
  • Contribute to the production of schedules, bills of quantities, construction sequencing, and setting out information, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail
  • Undertake PTS (Personal Track Safety) training as required, prioritising workplace safety and compliance
Team:
  • Work closely with colleagues to support design and assessment projects, developing technical skills in a supportive learning environment
  • Engage with a team-focused culture, contributing to shared success and continuous improvement
