Applications are invited from individuals interested in the Norfolk County Council Highway Apprenticeship Engineer programme.
We seek enthusiastic, self-motivated individuals to join our Highways teams as part of a training programme involving rotation across different teams and environments. Adaptability and a willingness to embrace change are essential.
Candidates should demonstrate good communication skills, be IT literate, eager to learn, and develop within a supportive civil engineering and local government setting. Flexibility and teamwork skills are vital, as you will be moved between teams to maximize your learning. You should also be numerate, literate, and a good problem solver with an eye for detail and sound judgment.
The programme includes further education, with a planned start in September 2025. The role involves studying for a Level 6 Civil Engineering Apprenticeship, typically via day release at Anglian Ruskin University or Suffolk University, leading to a professional qualification as an Incorporated Engineer (I.Eng), usually over six years.
Applicants must have a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C (9-4), including English, Science, and Maths (Maths at grade A*-B or 6-9), and at least 96 UCAS Tariff points at Level 3 (e.g., A Levels, BTEC National Certificate/Diploma). A Level 3 qualification in Maths at grade C or above is preferred.
You should be proactive in self-development, capable of writing training reports, and maintaining your Personal Development Plan. An awareness of basic engineering principles is desirable, but enthusiasm and motivation for highways and engineering are essential. The ability to travel to locations not accessible by public transport is also required.
