Job summary

Barnsley College is seeking an enthusiastic Apprentice Chef to join our busy kitchen team. You will gain hands-on experience in food preparation, kitchen operations, and food safety while working toward a nationally recognised apprenticeship qualification.

Working alongside experienced chefs, you will rotate through pastry, sauce and meat sections, support the Chef de Partie, and learn to manage stock, portion ingredients, and maintain a clean, safe work environment in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• No previous experience required; interest in catering and hospitality beneficial.
• GCSEs in English and Maths are desirable but not essential.
• Must be eligible to undertake an apprenticeship programme.

Responsibilities

• Prepare vegetables, scale and portion meat, and measure ingredients before service.
• Assist Chef de Partie to plate and cook dishes during busy service hours.
• Rotate through pastry, sauce and meat sections during kitchen rotations.
• Unpack deliveries, rotate stock and check expiry dates to minimise waste and maintain quality.
• Maintain a clean and safe workspace following food hygiene and safety procedures.
