We have a fantastic opportunity for a passionate Apprentice Commis Chef to join the team of one of our iconic restaurants – 34 Mayfair, Balthazar, Scott’s Mayfair, Scott’s Richmond, Daphne’s & J. Sheekey, part of Caprice Restaurants. We can provide you with the foundations that you need to reach for the Michelin Stars.

40 hours per week – Mon to Friday 8-4pm (for first 6 months)

(5 shifts a week, 1 day College release per week – paid)

Caprice Restaurants is a market-leading prestigious restaurant group, with a rich history and long-standing reputation in the hospitality industry. We have grown from strength to strength, opening our iconic restaurants across London and internationally. As we continue to expand, we offer structured career paths & hospitality training at every level to ensure your development and confidence grow with the group.

A team of world-class Chefs, Sommeliers, and Mixologists have designed an outstanding array of menus, cocktails, and wine lists. Expertly sourced, seasonal ingredients, wines, and spirits are brought together using traditional and innovative techniques to create truly unique dining and drinking experiences.

We are proud to be partnered with Westminster Kingsway College, which in May 2022 was named one of the top five culinary schools in the world to gain the skills and technical expertise needed to become a chef. The college was recognized alongside other illustrious institutions, namely the Culinary Institute of America in the United States, Le Cordon Bleu in France, Apicius in Italy, and the Business and Hotel Management School in Switzerland.

As an Apprentice Commis Chef, you will attend college one day per week, and the other four days you will be an integral part of the kitchen team, learning how the kitchen runs, working in your section, keeping it clean and tidy, and efficiently carrying out orders and specifications set by the Chef de Partie or senior chef. You will help produce high-quality dishes from scratch while maintaining the high standards and expectations of the restaurant. You will learn from highly experienced, passionate chefs, work with amazing products, and be taken on apprentice ‘trips’ to learn butchery, cheese, and oysters!

Throughout your apprenticeship, you will be working with the finest ingredients and will be mentored by your Chef to develop your skills and experience. This role could lead into a full-time Commis Chef or Demi Chef de Partie position at one of Caprice’s Restaurants.

We offer our Apprentice Commis Chef:

  • Work 5 shifts a week – Monday to Friday – 8am-4pm for the first 6 months (1 of those days is at college and is also paid)
  • A complete set of Chef starter knives
  • Provision of chef whites and shoes
  • A highly competitive starting salary
  • Increased salary as you develop and progress in your role
  • Extensive career development and training opportunities
  • Meals on duty
  • Life assurance cover
  • Access to our Cycle to Work scheme
  • Wagestream – a financial wellbeing benefit that provides you access to your pay as you earn it

We are ideally looking for candidates who:

  • Have good attention to detail
  • Are self-motivated and have a keen desire to learn
  • Take pride in their work
  • Are excellent team players

We promote a working environment in which equal opportunity and diversity are recognized, valued, and encouraged.

Only those eligible to work in the UK or with a valid UK work permit/visa will be considered for the position.

If you have a real passion for food, are looking to develop your career, and want to gain exposure to different cuisines in a vibrant and dynamic environment, then we can offer this! We would love to hear from you.
