Summary
Hornsby Accounts Ltd, based in Brigg are searching for a new apprentice to assist with bookkeeping, accounts and other associated duties. The successful candidates will be trained and mentored and will attend college day-release training to complete AAT accounting qualifications.

Wage
£12,563.20 to £20,317.44, depending on your age

Hours Standard hours would be Monday to Thursday 09.00 - 17.00. We are happy to look at flexible working arrangements or consider part-time hours.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You'll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Hornsby Accounts are a forward thinking, independent accountancy business, located in the centre of Brigg. We pride ourselves on accuracy and delivering the best possible service and experience for our valued clients.

With training and support you will learn to complete the following duties:
  • Bookkeeping using software including Xero, Sage, Excel and other similar platforms
  • Produce, run and submit VAT returns
  • Processing payroll and Construction Industry Scheme returns
  • Accurately entering accounting data and collecting and storing client records effectively
  • Reconciliation of client bank accounts, credit card accounts, sales and purchase ledgers
  • Dealing with HMRC queries and authorisations
  • General office administration
  • Assisting clients with queries, over the telephone and via email
  • Production and submission of Companies House Confirmation Statements
  • Learning from colleagues and attending college training sessions to complete AAT qualifications
  • All other associated duties as required

  • Record and analyse financial data using the organisation's standard tools and processes.
  • Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
  • Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
  • Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
  • Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
  • Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
  • Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
  • Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Your training plan

Our accountancy apprenticeships run on a day-release model. You will attend day-release college training at The Grimsby Institute for one day each week (within term-time). We offer a free college bus service in and around North and North East Lincolnshire.

More training information

As part of the apprenticeship, you will complete an AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting, build an extensive portfolio of your practical work and take part in a bespoke programme of technical, practical and vocational learning.

Other requirements

Hornsby Accounts is located in the centre of Brigg. Please check the location and ensure you would be able to travel to work daily. You will attend college day-release sessions based at The Grimsby Institute, once each week.
