Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship - Cheslyn Hay Academy (Secondary School)

Overview of role:

The Teaching Assistant, under the direction and guidance of the class teacher will support the teaching and learning activities in the classroom, by working with individuals or small groups of pupils/students and may be responsible for some learning activities within the overall teaching plan at Cheslyn Hay Academy in line with the vision and values of Windsor Academy Trust.

Key details:

  • Hours: Monday to Friday (shift tbc), 37 hours per week
  • Term-time only (38 weeks per year)
  • Wage: £7.55 per hour
  • Location: Cheslyn Hay Academy, Saredon Road, Cheslyn Hay, Walsall,
    WS6 7JQ

Apprenticeship details:

  • Qualification: Level 3 Teaching Assistant Qualification
  • Duration of course: 16 months
  • Training Provider: LMP Education (Rated No 1 Training Provider in the UK!)
  • All learning delivered online/ remotely alongside role.

Full Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with individuals or small groups of pupils/students within the classroom under the direct supervision of teaching staff.
  • Work with individual pupils/students with special educational needs and/or those for whom English is not their first language.
  • Implement planned learning activities/teaching programmes as agreed with the class teacher, adjusting activities in response to pupils’/students’ needs.
  • Support pupils/students with behavioural, emotional, and social development needs under the guidance of the class teacher (e.g. implementation of behaviour management policies and promotion of academy behaviour policies).
  • Assist pupils/students with eating, dressing, and hygiene, as required.
  • Maintain pupils’/students’ interest and motivation.
  • Support individuals and group work assigned by the class teacher to raise core skills.
  • Support the development of individual learning plans and student learning profiles.
  • Provide feedback to pupils/students on progress and achievement under the guidance of a teacher.
  • Be aware of pupils’/students’ problems, achievements, and progress, and report to the teacher as agreed.
  • Understand and support independent learning and the inclusion of all pupils/students, as required.
  • Support learning activities by contributing to the planning and evaluation of lessons and by assisting in their delivery.
  • Arrange and provide resources for lessons/activities under the direction of the class teacher.
  • Support the class teacher in monitoring, assessing, and recording pupil/student progress and activities.
