As our next Applied Scientist, you'll help build the UK's go-to home improvement marketplace by making sure the numbers behind it are right. AI is doing more of the heavy lifting on analysis, and you'll be the human layer above it. You'll own the direction of your work, partner with data scientists on models and systems with real impact, and work closely with the C-suite on making the business more data-driven.

The job, unfiltered:

• Own metric integrity: define and govern what our numbers actually mean, so nobody makes a call off a flawed definition or a dodgy query.
• Act as the quality gate on AI-generated analysis, checking the logic and validating the output so errors are caught before they reach a stakeholder.
• Design and interpret A/B tests: set the success metrics, size the sample properly and call it when a result is underpowered rather than running with it.
• Diagnose what's driving commercial performance, such as why revenue is moving, where leads drop out of the funnel and which segments are underperforming, and turn that into a structured investigation with real hypotheses.
• Turn analysis into action: size the commercial impact, lay out the trade-offs, help the business decide what to do differently, then track whether it worked.
• Build interactive dashboards and self-serve tools that keep stakeholders oriented day to day, without an analyst needing to be in the loop every time.

The fit:

• A track record across diagnosing, analysing and acting: not just producing analysis, but finding the cause and driving the change that moved the outcome.
• Fluency with SQL, Python and core data concepts, so you can tell when an output is wrong before anyone else spots it.
• Experience designing experiments and turning statistical findings into commercial recommendations that hold up under scrutiny.
• A knack for explaining complex findings to non-technical audiences in a way that moves a decision.
• Experience in a marketplace, subscription or lead-generation business is a bonus.
• Experience with tools like Tableau or Looker is a bonus too.
