Join a leading NHS Trust offering a supportive role as an Applied Psychologist within a groundbreaking service for type 1 diabetes patients. This fixed-term position provides the opportunity to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team, focusing on integrated care and mental health support.
Come and Join Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, where we offer a wide variety of challenging and rewarding roles within a supportive, innovative and dynamic work environment!
We have a very exciting fixed term opportunity for an Applied Psychologist to join our Directorate of Mental Health working 1 day per week.
This service is one of five national sites across the UK to provide integrated care for patients with type 1 diabetes and disordered eating (T1DE). The aim of this pilot service is to manage the psychological, dietetic and medical support for these individuals in one appointment and held within one team, rather than patient going between teams. The hope is that this will reduce the incidence of severe health complications associated with disordered eating in people living with type 1 diabetes. Leicester was fortunate enough to secure funding to be a pilot site from NHS England in 2022-March 2026 and with the future of the service to then be reviewed.
The service is lead by Professor Pratik Choudhary (Diabetes Consultant), with specialist diabetes nurse and also dietician. We have had psychological cover in the team, but the Psychologist is currently on maternity leave, but may re-join on her return.
The health and wellbeing of our team members is very important to us and we offer a robust induction period, as well as regular supervision and support.
The role involves me working directly into the diabetes MDT to provide psychological triage of patients referred in to t1de, assessment (including risk), supporting psychologically informed practice by holding joint clinics with consultants, nurses and dieticians, providing monthly supervision to nurses and dietician in T1DE, facilitating wider team formulation meetings to generate care plans for complex patients, holding a small caseload of active patients, building relationships between ED team and FDL through liaison work and providing T1DE training.
We may close the advert early, if we receive a sufficient number of applicants, so please apply as soon as possible.
