Job description
Overview

Responsible for the build and support of the Trust EPR Applications (e.g. Oracle/Cerner iClip) and all other clinical applications in use within the organisation. The post holder will manage Operational Management and Data Quality for all Clinical Systems and their integration with current and future developments.

Responsibilities
  • Provide Operational Management for the trust's main Clinical Systems, ensuring processes are effective, integrated and in line with Trust standards.
  • Continuously review data quality with the Build and Support Manager and the Head of Information, including CSW Clinical coding.
  • Work closely with informatics colleagues to ensure clinical system functionality aligns with business processes/workflows.
  • Collaborate with the Head of IT Service Delivery regarding quality and IT Service delivery/improvement.
  • Lead the Operations of the Applications and Clinical Systems Department and act as Operational lead for the Trust for Applications and Clinical Systems with external parties (e.g., other care settings).
  • Assist in organising communications to all users of clinical systems (workshops, e-learning, guidance documents, newsletters) to ensure staff are aware of and compliant with best practices in system functionality and data quality.
  • Analyse and determine appropriate action in complex hardware/software malfunctions to maintain systems and protect patient care; ensure staff are updated and trained on changes.
  • Operate with autonomy within policy and regulatory frameworks; manage tight deadlines and prioritise own workload; liaise with external IDT system and software suppliers for issue resolution.
Clinical Systems
  • Maintain knowledge of functionality, security, upgrades, and national requirements relating to clinical systems; plan and manage upgrades, enhancements or patches; test systems regularly.
  • Organise and prioritise workload to resolve user support issues; maximise benefits of clinical systems and promote efficiencies.
  • Support testing/research of new clinical systems applications and hardware that may be used by the Trust in the future.
  • Ensure users are supported in resolving queries to minimise system non-usability.
Data Quality
  • Regularly analyse Clinical Systems data and promptly correct errors to minimise risk to patient care.
  • Maximise income by ensuring efficient data entry of CDS data and reduction of data errors within deadlines; ensure confidentiality and IG compliance.
  • Raise data quality across St George’s and all subdivisions; perform regular audits against Data Quality standards; develop related policies and procedures.
  • Work with Informatics colleagues to develop policies that support business and service development.
Policies
  • Ensure IDT Policies and Information Governance Policies are adhered to.
  • Responsible for creating, maintaining and reviewing the Clinical Operational Policy and Procedures.
Human Resources
  • Line manage the Applications Build and Support Teams and any assigned staff; assist in recruitment per Trust guidelines.
  • Manage day-to-day delegation of duties; maintain accurate records of annual leave, study leave and sickness.
  • Lead and develop team morale and motivation; provide support and corporate-level advice to staff.
Project Management
  • Contribute to application and service improvement projects as delegated; work with the IDT Projects Team on access permissions or support processes development.
  • Support IDT and Trust project delivery through steering groups and project scoping related to BAU requirements.
Research & Development
  • Proactively review new technologies related to application support, provisioning, and integration; agree training requirements for personal development.
  • Develop staff within the Data Quality and Applications Build and Support Teams through PDAs, one-to-one meetings and appraisals per Trust HR procedures.
Communication
  • Maintain effective relationships with IDT staff and service users; participate in team meetings to review and improve service quality.
  • Communicate with third parties, escalate issues when required, and ensure notification of planned outages and changes.
  • Represent the IDT Department in meetings with internal and external stakeholders; communicate complex or sensitive information effectively.
Other Duties
  • Assist in producing ad hoc reports and undertake any other duties as appropriate to the role.
