Our opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Marshall IT Application Team as an Applications Engineer (12 month FTC) and be at the forefront of Information Technology within a defence focused business.

What will you be doing?

The successful applicant will join an experienced team, reporting to the IT Infrastructure Manager.

Activities will include;

  • Application configuration, deployment and packaging within a Windows managed Environment, inclusive of:
    • Engineering Applications;
    • Microsoft Office (and family of products);
    • Other software and applications linked to business functionality;
    • Microsoft Operating system deployment technologies;
    • Managing Citrix environments;
  • Application activities relating to:
    • Compliance: Ensuring applications are kept up to date and security vulnerabilities are patched in a timely fashion;
    • Delivering functionality improvements;
    • Operating system configuration.
  • Introducing in a controlled, project methodology:
    • New services relating to applications, and services;
    • New Applications, and software to the environment;
    • New Software as a service (SaaS) solutions into the environment.

What’s previous experiences and skills do you need?

  • Methodological approach to the introduction of New Software, Applications and Services, to the environment, therefore project management experience, qualifications is beneficial;
  • A thorough administrator level understanding of Windows 10 and Server 2016:
    • Experience of Windows registry and file system;
    • Experience of Microsoft Group Policies and Active Directory Scripting using tools such as PowerShell;
    • Windows 10 support and patch management using WSUS, LANDesk (or equivalent desktop management tools)
  • Experience of working in a Citrix 7.x environment
  • Knowledge and practical experience of application packaging, customisation and deployment methodologies and toolsets.
    • Application virtualisation (App-V) on current Windows 10 with centralised management.
  • Experience of delivering Engineering tools application support – (Autodesk, Catia would be an advantage)
  • Experience of Server management and knowledge of VMWare would be an advantage
  • Experience of Microsoft Office 2016, 2019 and above deployment and customisation
  • Experience of contributing to the development of the deployment service, particularly relating to the development of technical methodologies, best practice, policies, procedures and associated documentation
  • Experience of Systems management, using iVanti or SCCM as the deployment infrastructure
  • Knowledge and experience with ITSM/ITIL V3 Reference model.
  • Good logical diagnostic skills, ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues such as registry-related application problems, clashes between applications etc.
  • Good report writing and communication skills
  • Capable of meeting deadlines and following a defined schedule
  • Able to innovate and convince others of the argument for change
  • Willing to get stuck into the ‘unknown’ and be persistent
