Job summary

Adecco Group UK & Ireland is seeking an Applications Engineer in Sheffield who will support new products and manufacturing processes throughout the full product lifecycle. The role requires hands-on CAM/CNC capability, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and a focus on cost reduction and process improvement.

The successful candidate will have a Mechanical Engineering degree, 5+ years in similar roles, and experience with complex milled/turned parts in regulated sectors.

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering (Mechanical) or equivalent.
• 5+ years in a similar role.
• Experience with geometrically complex milled/turned components in orthopaedic/aerospace sectors.
• Proven track record delivering engineering projects and familiarity with project tracking tools.
• Experience in heavily regulated industries with strong process adherence and change control.

• Own manufacturing cost targets per project plan and identify solutions to meet targets when off track.

• Provide accurate financial estimations to support pro formas and customer quotations.

Our client in Sheffield is seeking a talented Applications Engineer to join their dynamic team.

Job Purpose

The Applications Engineer plays a critical role in supporting new products and technologies, as well as established processes. This position involves overseeing the full product lifecycle, from RFQ and DFM through to production prove-out and identifying cost/rework reduction opportunities. The successful candidate will work with flexibility, ensuring that Operations are effectively supported while achieving Engineering objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management

Plan, lead, and execute multiple engineering programmes while monitoring and reporting deliverables to management.

Collaborate with internal functions

Collaborate with internal functions, such as Programme Management, Quality, Planning, and Production, as well as interface with customer technical teams.

Manufacturing Process Ownership

• Ensure that assigned programmes run effectively according to the production plan.
• Develop and optimise work instructions, proactively identifying and investigating improvement opportunities.

Operations Representation

Attend daily Operations meetings, provide input and resolutions, and ensure timely feedback is communicated to relevant teams.

Quotations and Financial Estimations

Provide accurate financial estimations to support programme pro formas and customer quotations.

Own manufacturing cost targets per project plan, finding solutions to meet targets when off track.

Subject Matter Expertise

Utilise extensive experience and specialist knowledge to drive best practises and collaborate with stakeholders to implement leading-edge solutions.

Qualifications and Experience

Educational Requirement

A degree in Engineering (Mechanical or equivalent) is required. Candidates currently pursuing a qualification will also be considered.

Experience

• 5+ years in a similar role, with substantial experience in manufacturing geometrically complex milled and turned components, ideally for the orthopaedic and aerospace sectors.
• Proven track record of delivering engineering projects and familiarity with project tracking tools.
• Experience in heavily regulated industries with a strong understanding of process adherence and change control.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Committed problem solver with the ability to manage a complex workload and adapt to shifting priorities.
• Proficiency in CAM systems (such as Hypermill, Mastercam, or Vericut) and CNC programming, with a preference for Multi-axis CNC machining experience.
• Basic understanding of lean and/or industrial engineering principles, including process flow and equipment layout.
• Strong communication skills, capable of conveying technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Collaborative team player with good ERP knowledge to create and maintain manufacturing documentation.

Working Hours

09:00AM - 3:30PM, Monday - Thursday and 09:00AM - 2PM on a Friday.
