Echelon Engineers is seeking an Applications Engineer to design compelling 3D plant layouts and engineering solutions. The role sits at the heart of the sales process, converting enquiries into design concepts that win work.

You will produce 3D layouts, renders and flow diagrams using SolidWorks, with growing autonomy and direct impact on commercial outcomes. A design-led mindset and strong CAD capability are essential.

Qualifications

• Proficient in SolidWorks with solid 2D and 3D CAD ability.
• Background in capital equipment, process plant or related industrial sector.

Responsibilities

• Produce 3D plant layouts and GA designs using SolidWorks and 2D CAD.
• Interpret sales enquiries and develop layout and technical requirements autonomously.
• Build and maintain a library of 3D models and standard equipment shells.
• Create renders, animations, flythroughs and flow diagrams for customers and marketing.
• Explore emerging 3D techniques such as laser scan integration and web configurators.
• Support project engineering and detailed design to release work to manufacture as needed.
• Contribute to design standards, product standardisation and continuous improvement.
• Provide technical support to sales, marketing, engineering, projects and R&D; attend site as needed.

Echelon Engineers is working with a well established manufacturer of process plant and materials handling equipment to recruit an Applications Engineer. This is a design led role sitting at the heart of the sales process, turning customer enquiries into compelling 3D plant layouts and engineering solutions that win work.

The Role

Reporting to the Technical Director, you will create 3D layouts and engineering concepts that support the sales and marketing effort. Over time you will take incoming enquiries and progress the technical and drawing work independently, becoming a key link between sales, engineering and projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce visually strong, accurate 3D plant layouts and general arrangement designs using SolidWorks and 2D CAD.
• Interpret sales enquiries and develop the layout and technical requirements with growing autonomy.
• Build and maintain a library of plug and play 3D models and standard equipment shells to speed up layout creation.
• Create renders, animations, flythroughs and flow diagrams to bring designs to life for customers and marketing.
• Explore emerging 3D techniques such as laser scan integration, first person walkthroughs and web based configurators.
• Support project engineering and detailed design to help release work to manufacture when required.
• Contribute to design standards, product standardisation and continuous improvement.
• Provide technical support to sales, marketing, engineering, projects and R&D, attending site as needed.

About You

• Proficient in SolidWorks, with solid 2D and 3D CAD ability.
• Background in capital equipment, process plant, materials handling or a related industrial manufacturing sector.
• Able to read an enquiry and work out what a layout needs with minimal direction.
• Strong eye for clear, well presented design and layout.
• Comfortable producing renders, animations or flow diagrams (or keen to develop these skills).
• Self motivated, organised and able to manage several projects at once.
