Job description

The Application Test Engineer will be a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in their field with comprehensive
engineering and technical knowledge responsible for, defining, managing and delivering a coherent set of testing outcomes across multiple technologies.

As a subject matter expert, they will create a best practice standard directly contributing to Thames Water's Turnaround plan.

What you’ll be doing as an Application Test Engineer

  • Design and develop automated and manual testing procedures for new and existing products.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand user/product requirements and specifications.
  • Create detailed, comprehensive, and well-structured test plans and test cases.
  • Execute and evaluate manual and automated test cases and report test results.
  • Identify, document, and track software defects and inconsistencies.
  • Perform thorough regression testing when bugs are resolved.
  • Develop and apply testing processes for new and existing products to meet stakeholder needs.
  • Monitor debugging process results and provide feedback to the development team.
  • Stay up to date with new testing tools and test strategies
Base location – Hybrid Hampton Coal Wharf, TW12 2ES (will be travelling to all sites across the Thames Valley area).

Requirements for the role – MUST have a UK valid driving licence.

What you should bring to the role

Essential
  • Educated to HNC level or equivalent in a relevant technical area.
  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Extensive direct experience of test & development within a complex organisation.
  • Technical report writing
  • Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC): Understanding of SDLC and methodologies like Agile and DevOps
  • Driving Licence
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyse system requirements, design comprehensive test plans, and identify issues
  • Attention to Detail
Desirable
  • Experience in managing conflicting demands and able to prioritise own and team's demands
  • Experience of customer (internal & external) relationship management
  • Strong problem-solving abilities to troubleshoot and resolve issues
  • Knowledge testing methodologies and principles
  • Testing cloud-based systems and services
