Job Title: Application Security Test Engineer

Location: Hemel Hempstead / Hybrid

Our testing teams are responsible for testing a wide range of products to ensure they meet stringent security standards and certification requirements. In this role, you will have the opportunity to test a wide range of products from our global clients, including big tech.

Working within the regulatory landscape, you will also have the opportunity to keep abreast of the latest regulatory requirements, develop your expertise, and research new testing techniques to further expand our testing capabilities.

As our Application Security Test Engineer, you will be responsible for testing client mobile and web software applications in accordance with OWASP (ASVS/MASVS) frameworks. To be successful in this role, you’ll need an understanding of web application vulnerabilities and black-box/white-box testing techniques.

Responsibilities:

• Perform product testing of software applications (Web & Mobile).
• Assist in maintaining and improving testing techniques for the IoT and Digital Apps laboratory.
• Research and identify new potential test equipment/software tools for the IoT and Digital Apps laboratories.
• Provide technical assistance with BSI customers during testing and certification processes.
• Manage and own all assigned test projects to ensure timelines are met.
• Prepare Test Reports for clients and deliver on time.
• Lead project, assessment, and evaluation teams as required.
• Represent BSI’s interests with external bodies and industry groups.
• Update testing schemes according to new or amended product standards/directives.
• Collaborate with Compliance and Risk teams to ensure regulatory requirements are met.
• Attend trade shows, technical meetings, and occasional overseas travel.

Requirements to be successful:

• Knowledge of web application security principles, standards, and best practices, such as OWASP Top 10, MASVS, and ASVS.
• Experience in security testing of web/mobile applications and web services using manual and automated tools.
• Familiarity with web development frameworks and technologies like Django, Rails, Spring, ASP.NET, HTML, CSS, XML, JSON, REST.
• Ability to write clear reports documenting testing activities.
• Understanding of business requirements and secure application design.
• Experience in manual code reviews and open-source software evaluations.
• Relevant degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Security, or related fields.
• Strong interpersonal skills and project management experience.
• Proactive problem-solving skills.
• Legal right to work in the UK; sponsorship not available.
