About the Role

Our client, a well-funded startup revolutionizing decentralized finance (DeFi), is seeking a skilled and proactive Application Security Engineer to join their security team. This is a high-priority role aimed at enhancing the organization’s application security capabilities. Reporting directly to the Head of Security (US-based), who currently leads the security function as the sole team member, this role will provide critical support to ensure secure code practices, mitigate risks, and drive offensive security initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed reviews of pull requests to identify, mitigate, and prevent security vulnerabilities in code.
• Implement and advocate secure coding practices across engineering teams.
• Apply offensive security techniques to proactively identify weaknesses in applications and systems.
• Collaborate with developers to remediate vulnerabilities and enhance the overall security posture of the organization.
• Contribute to building a secure software development lifecycle by integrating security tools and processes.
• Stay current with the latest security trends, vulnerabilities, and best practices.

Required Skills and Experience

• Strong expertise in application security, with a proven track record of identifying and mitigating bugs in code reviews.
• Offensive security experience, including penetration testing and vulnerability exploitation.
• Familiarity with modern application development frameworks and languages.
• Preferred certifications: OSCP, OSWE, or OSCE.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think like an attacker.

Bonus Skills

• Experience in smart contract auditing and identifying vulnerabilities in blockchain-based applications.
• Proficiency in writing secure code and implementing secure coding standards across teams.
