Job description

A great opportunity for a Graduate or person with 12 months post-grad experience who is aware of the current technical landscape and continually develops their technical skills, particularly in Python coding.

Ideal for a Graduate with a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a similar field.

Application Engineer must be competent in the following technologies:

• Strong Python skills
• Knowledge or experience with Flask, SQLAlchemy, and Pandas
• Desirable: Microsoft Azure with Terraform, Docker, GitHub, Atlassian Jira, macOS

Responsibilities:

• Python coding and scripting for key applications
• Developing and maintaining secure web-based tools for data pipeline automation and digital transformation
• Implementing best practices in technology use, database structures, and documentation
• Securing software tools in line with NCSC guidelines and MOD requirements
• Architecting and implementing cloud solutions for reliability
• Supporting and mentoring team members
• Supporting ad-hoc needs, stakeholder engagement, and training
• Identifying and evaluating digital solution opportunities

Skills & Competencies:

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar with Python experience
• Strong Python skills; experience with Flask and SQLAlchemy preferred
• Ability to learn new Python libraries quickly
• Good cloud computing knowledge, ideally PaaS
• Awareness of current trends and technologies
• Experience with Git/GitHub
• Knowledge of HTTP, SSL, networking, and application efficiency is advantageous
• Desire to build quality products and innovate
• Organized, detail-oriented, self-starter
• Good communication skills and team collaboration experience
• Comfortable working with uncertainty
• Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript is a plus
