Job summary

Uniting People in Glasgow is urgently seeking an API Engineer with strong hands-on Envoy Proxy/Gateway experience to join a major banking technology programme. This 6-month contract is onsite, paying £425 per day, Inside IR35.

Candidates must have proven Envoy expertise, plus strong Java or Golang, REST, OAS, OAuth2/OIDC, JWT, mTLS, and Kubernetes. Responsibilities include configuring Envoy, managing API routing and gateway policies, troubleshooting proxy issues and contributing to CI/CD and

Qualifications

• Proven hands-on Envoy Proxy or Envoy Gateway experience essential.
• Strong Java or Golang development experience.
• Experience with REST APIs and OpenAPI specifications (OAS).
• Experience implementing gateway authentication (OAuth2/OIDC) and JWT validation.
• Experience in Kubernetes/cloud-native environments and IaC tooling (Terraform).
• CI/CD pipelines and Git-based configuration management.

API Engineer - Envoy

Location: Glasgow - 5 days onsite
Contract: 6 months
Rate: £425 per day

Experience: Banking/Financial Services essential

We are urgently looking for an experienced API Engineer with strong hands-on Envoy Proxy/Envoy Gateway experience to join a major banking technology programme in Glasgow.

This is a specialist API engineering role, so candidates must have proven practical experience with Envoy rather than simply general API, Kubernetes or DevOps exposure.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, configure and support Envoy Proxy/Envoy Gateway within a cloud-native banking environment.


• Configure and manage API routing, services, upstreams and gateway policies.


• Troubleshoot complex API routing, connectivity and Proxy issues.


• Implement API authentication and authorisation at gateway level.


• Support secure and highly available API gateway architectures.


• Work with engineering and platform teams on Kubernetes-based API infrastructure.


• Manage API gateway configuration through controlled, automated deployment processes.


• Contribute to CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code and cloud-native engineering practices.
