Posting Description

Catastrophe Modelling – 2027 Graduate Programme

Start Date: 1st September 2027Application closing date: 7th December 2026Please note, we may close earlier if we receive the quantity, quality & variety of applications required.

Better Decisions Begin with You

At Aon, we shape decisions for the better to protect and enrich the lives of people around the world. As an organisation, we are united through trust as one inclusive, diverse team, and we are passionate about helping our colleagues and clients succeed.

Catastrophe Modelling

Catastrophe Modelling plays an important role within Aon Reinsurance, helping insurers and reinsurers understand and manage the financial impact of natural and human‑made risks. Using commercial catastrophe models and Aon’s own analytical tools, our teams assess perils including earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, wildfires and cyber. These insights support clients in making informed decisions about risk, capital and reinsurance.

What the role looks like

As a graduate, you will join a collaborative team of analysts with backgrounds across science, economics, engineering, actuarial science, catastrophe modelling and IT security. You will learn to prepare and analyse data, use Aon’s risk quantification tools and digital technologies, interpret model outputs and communicate clear insights to colleagues and clients.

The role will encourage you to ask thoughtful questions, challenge assumptions and apply sound judgement, including when using AI‑enabled tools and reviewing machine‑generated outputs.

You may also gain experience across specialist areas including Catastrophe Management, Cyber, model development and model evaluation, where models, methodologies and outputs are tested and peer reviewed.

What your day could look like:

  • Preparing, interpreting and quality-checking client exposure, insurance and claims data, investigating anomalies and ensuring analysis is accurate and traceable.
  • Running catastrophe models to quantify the likelihood and potential impact of natural, cyber and other human‑made events.
  • Analysing model outputs, identifying patterns and testing scenarios to translate complex results into clear, client‑focused insights.
  • Testing how data quality, assumptions, portfolio changes and input variables affect results, and deciding when further expert review is needed.
  • Evaluating and validating vendor, internally developed and AI‑supported outputs, considering methodologies, strengths, limitations and relevance to the client’s needs.
  • Monitoring major catastrophe events and providing timely information to help assess their potential impact and support sound decisions.
  • Researching emerging risks, climate change and developments in natural and cyber catastrophe risk, anticipating how these may affect clients.
  • Developing and maintaining datasets, analytical tools, models and client solutions, with opportunities over time to build capability in SQL, Python, data pipelines and advanced analytics.
  • Using tools such as Copilot and analytics platforms thoughtfully, learning to refine prompts, tailor outputs and check that results are reliable and appropriate.
  • Working inclusively with colleagues, academic institutions and industry partners, valuing different perspectives to test ideas and develop innovative approaches.
  • Coordinating analytical tasks, seeking and applying feedback, and preparing presentations that communicate priorities and findings to technical and non‑technical collaborators.
Your Development

As an Aon Graduate, you will be enrolled onto our Launch Programme when you join. Alongside your broader development, you will progressively build the technical and professional capabilities needed for the role. This may include data analysis and management, advanced analytics, SQL, Python, data governance and quality, and coordinating analytical workstreams.

You will also develop confidence in using AI‑enabled and digital tools responsibly, applying critical judgement and adapting outputs to client and business needs. These capabilities are developed through experience and support and are not all expected when you join.

The programme is built around 3 core elements:

  • Business learning. On the job learning and experiences giving you the opportunity to develop your knowledge and understanding of the team and solution line you have joined.
  • Centralised learning. Our UK graduates complete in an Aon Induction, monthly webinars, business skills training and workshops; all designed to help you develop your knowledge of Aon, build your confidence and your network across our business.
  • Professional Qualifications. To enable you to be as successful as possible, as part of your role, you will be expected to complete our Go Further Apprenticeship programmes. We’ll fully support your study towards the Level 4 Diploma in Insurance from the CII (Chartered Insurance Institute) and beyond. To support you as you study for your exams, you’ll receive paid study leave, plus an extensive range of study and tuition materials.
Your career beyond your Graduate programme

Once you’ve completed the formal graduate programme, you’ll continue to receive lots of support at Aon. As well as continued technical and business skills training, you’ll receive support for your professional qualifications. To aid your professional development you’ll receive regular performance feedback, and work with your line manager towards promotions, enabling you to progress.

Entry Requirements
  • You will need to have or be on track to achieve a 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in mathematics/statistics, finance/economics, sciences/technology, or a similar quantitative field.
  • Much of our work would appeal to Geography students, especially those with experience in Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
  • An interest in data, analytics and digital tools is important. Any exposure to programming, such as Python or R, is useful but not essential, as technical capability will be developed over time.
  • We’re always keen to hear from PhD or Master’s graduates, or candidates with equivalent experience.
What are we looking for?
  • Motivation and ambition to pursue a career in Catastrophe Modelling in Reinsurance. You will be able to articulate why this work interests you and how it contributes to better outcomes for clients.
  • Curiosity and a learning appraoch. You will be interested in the relationship between reinsurance and the global environment, keen to build new technical skills and comfortable adapting as tools, risks and priorities evolve.
  • Critical thinking and sound judgement. You will enjoy analysing information, asking targeted questions, challenging assumptions and checking outputs rather than accepting them at face value.
  • Client and commercial awareness. You will be interested in understanding client needs, evaluating trade‑offs and connecting your analysis to wider business objectives.
  • Clear communication. You will be able to explain complex ideas and analytical findings in a simple, relevant and engaging way.
  • Ownership and collaboration. You will take responsibility for dependable delivery, seek and apply feedback, share knowledge and work effectively with colleagues from different fields and backgrounds.
  • Interest in responsible use of technology. You will be open to using AI‑enabled tools, analytics platforms and digital productivity tools, while recognising the importance of human expertise, careful review and client context.
  • For Cyber: Curiosity and enthusiasm about being at the forefront of the emerging area of cyber catastrophe risk quantification.
Locations

This role will be based in our London office.

We recognise the value for our Early Career colleagues of being in the office environment from the beginning of their programme. As a new graduate, you will spend the first 6 months based in the office to support your learning, development, and progression. This will enable you access to support from managers, collaborate with colleagues as well as grow your network across Aon. After completing this initial training period, you will then have the opportunity to work more flexibly, spending at least 3 to 4 days face to face in the Aon office or with clients.

Aon UK Graduate Recruitment: What to Expect

We know applying for your first graduate role can be exciting, and sometimes a little daunting. At Aon, we’re committed to making our recruitment process as transparent and supportive as possible. Here’s how our selection journey works, and what you can expect at each stage:

Application Review

  • We process applications on a rolling basis, moving candidates forward as they complete each stage.
  • Every application is carefully reviewed by our team (not by AI).
  • Due to the high volume of interest, this stage can take up to two weeks.
  • Please note: We do not review CVs or cover letters at this point.

Online Assessment

  • We understand you want to put your best foot forward, so you’ll have 5 calendar days to complete the online assessment.
  • If you need more time, just let us know as extensions are available.

Video Interview

  • Preparation matters, so you’ll have up to 10 days (240 hours) from receiving your invitation to record and submit your video interview.
  • Rest assured: Every video interview is reviewed by a real member of our recruitment team, not an AI system.
  • You’ll typically hear back from us within 2-3 weeks after submitting your interview, though times may vary depending on the number of applications.

Assessment Centres

  • Our assessment centres are held in person at the Aon office closest to the location you applied for.
  • Please note: Due to the large number of applications, not every candidate who completes a video interview will be invited to an assessment centre.
  • Assessment centres usually run after Christmas, from mid‑January.
  • If selected, you’ll have 7-14 days’ notice to help you arrange any travel.
  • We run a limited number of Assessment Centre so please make every effort to attend if invited.
  • We reimburse reasonable travel costs (such as standard class train tickets). Flights and hotels are only covered if agreed in advance.
  • At the assessment centre stage, your CV and cover letter will be shared with hiring managers. This helps them get a fuller picture of you as a candidate—but these documents are not used for initial screening.
Aon's guidance of the use of AI during the selection process

As an innovative global leader, we recognize and embrace the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help job seekers be more efficient in their recruitment processes. In fact, Aon is in the business of developing and implementing innovative AI tools that support both colleagues and clients, which you’ll use as an Aon colleague if you join our team.

AI can be a helpful tool for researching Aon, preparing for interviews or refining your CV, it should support, not replace, your own thinking, judgement, skills and experiences.

We ask that you refrain from using AI when completing assessments or during live or pre‑recorded interview processes, which will often include an in‑person interview where the technology will not be available to you. Additionally, virtual or in‑person interviews should not be recorded or transcribed.

At Aon, we foster a culture of inclusiveness, fairness and transparency. We expect all candidates to embrace these principles in every interaction with us.

Applying for more than one programme or role

We ask candidates to submit one Early Carers application per recruitment cycle. We encourage you to explore our opportunities carefully and apply for the programme or role that best matches your skills, interests and career goals. This helps you focus on submitting your strongest application and ensures we can assess candidates fairly and efficiently.

If, during the selection process, we believe another opportunity at Aon may be a better fit for your experience and aspirations, our recruitment team may discuss alternative options with you.

If you're unsure which programme is right for you, we recommend reviewing the programme information on our careers site or attending one of our events before applying.

Top Tip: Choose the role you're most excited about, rather than treating a second application as a back‑up option. We want to understand where your genuine interests lie and how you see your future career developing.

We’re here to support you every step of the way. If you have any questions or need accommodations, just contact our team at graduates@aon.co.uk. Good luck and we look forward to seeing what you can bring to Aon!
