Job summary

An established industry player is seeking a compassionate Youth Worker to create a safe and therapeutic environment for adolescents. Job description

The ANYSH Youth worker provides a safe therapeutic daily living environment for the adolescent residents of the safe house; performs all duties including cooking, cleaning, supporting youth to achieve goals; and reporting. The incumbent provides positive role modelling that is culturally open and accessible to all youth; is a strong communicator, works well under pressure, and is team oriented.

Your Duties:

Some of your duties & responsibilities include:

  1. Provide a caring and positive environment for youth;
  2. Administrative and file management regarding youth intake & discharge from the safe house, staff communications;
  3. Regularly log activities & visitors in logbook;
  4. Support youth to follow through on referrals and encourage participation in referred programming and services;
  5. Understand the continuum of youth services with partners, especially Options & Pacific Community Resources;
  6. When requested, support youth communication with professionals, including Ministry social workers, school officials, medical personnel, etc.;
  7. Promote healthy and hygienic living practices;
  8. Manage safety and sanitation procedures, first aid and emergency medical procedures in the safe house, particularly the bed bug protocol;
  9. Assist in the overall care and maintenance of the safe house area and equipment;
  10. Perform daily cleaning and prepare meals as needed for youth;
  11. Overnight, awake, work times are part of the work schedule;
  12. Provide shift coverage on an emergency basis;
  13. Work cooperatively with each safe house team member and assist the staff team in the development and review of program components.

Qualifications:

  1. Child and Youth Care diploma or an equivalent combination of education and related experience as demonstrated by:
  2. a. Combination of relevant certifications;
  3. b. Years of experience working directly with youth;
  4. Demonstrated positive personal characteristics;
  5. Valid driver’s license an asset;
  6. Valid First Aid and Food Safe certificate;
  7. Experience working in a non-profit sector an asset;
  8. Knowledge of multicultural communities, organizations and service providers within Surrey;
  9. Criminal Record Check and review is a requirement of all employees of FRAFCA.

Skills and attributes:

  1. Knowledge of First Nations and other diverse cultures, traditions, and socio-economic barriers;
  2. Experience working with teenage clients;
  3. Ability to work effectively in a team environment;
  4. Excellent interpersonal communication skills;
  5. Analytical and observational skills;
  6. Basic computer skills (including Microsoft Office);
  7. Ability to multi-task;

Requirements/Qualifications:

  1. Child and Youth Care diploma or an equivalent combination of education and related experience as demonstrated by:
  2. i. Combination of relevant certifications;
  3. ii. Years of experience working directly with youth;
  4. Demonstrated positive personal characteristics;
  5. Valid driver’s license an asset;
  6. Valid First Aid certificate;
  7. Valid Food Safe certificate;
  8. Experience working in a non-profit sector an asset;
  9. Knowledge of multicultural communities, organizations and service providers within the Circle 5 area (Surrey/Delta/White Rock Region);
  10. Criminal Record Check and review is a requirement of all employees of FRAFCA.
