Job summary

The University of Glasgow is seeking an Animal Technician to provide high-quality care and routine operational support in Biological Services facilities, ensuring animal welfare and cleanliness standards, and accurate data recording.

Responsibilities include daily husbandry, assisting researchers with experiments within regulatory guidelines, maintaining records in an animal software system, and completing Home Office licensing training as required.

Qualifications

• Experience with animals and animal care environments.
• Experience working in a team.
• Experience with record keeping and using animal software databases.
• Willingness to undertake Home Office Licence training and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day animal husbandry and care, including feeding, health checks and cage changes.
• Provide routine technical assistance to researchers, including humane procedures under supervision.
• Maintain facility cleanliness and report low stock or equipment issues.
• Input animal and experimental records accurately in a database.
• Undertake training to apply for a Personal Licence under the Animals (S Procedures) Act 1986.
• Adhere to SOPs and health and safety regulations.
